PLAINS
What are Plains?? Plains are broad, nearly level stretches of land that have no great changes in elevation. There are many types plains found around the world, such as: American Prairie Plain Russian Steppe Plain
Plains In India There are 2 types of plains in India : The Northern Plains (Indo- Gangetic Plains) The Coastal Plains (Subdivided into West and East Coastal Plains).

1. The Indo- Gangetic Plains They stretch from Punjab in West to Assam in East, and hence, extends over 2,500 km in length. They are made up of very fertile soil called Alluvial soil. 3 main rivers flow through the northern plains: Ganga, Brahmaputra, and Satluj. The largest Delta in the world, Sunderbans, is the result of the meeting of 2 rivers – Ganga and Brahmaputra.
2. The Coastal Plains (Part I) Western Coastal Plains – It starts from Gujarat and Ends at Kanniyakumari . The Gujarat Coast has flat land, and has many gulfs like Gulf of Khambat and Gulf of Kachch . The Konkan Coast starts from Gulf of Khambat and ends until Goa. It is rich in oil. The Malabar Coast is very green due to heavy rainfall. Kochi is a very important seaport of this region.
2. The Coastal Plains (Part II) The Northern Part Between the rivers Mahanadi and Krishna is called Northern Circars. The middle area between the rivers Krishna and Kaveri is called Coromandel Coast. This area forms big Deltas and hence, it is very fertile .
