Planimeter

Aim : To study the planimeter and find out the area of an irregular face.

Apparatus : Planimeter and map of the irregular figure whose area is to b determined.

Tracing arm Anchor arm Anchor arm Tracing point Hinge Wheel Graduated drum Disc Magnifier Adjusting screw Parts of planimeter :

First the figure of the area to be measured is drawn on reduced scale on a sheet. The first end of the planimeter should be placed at a such a point so that it can be moved to all points of the drawn area. Now move the pointer of the planimeter around the whole figure and then note down the reading of the vernier callipers . Take more readings by the planimeter and calculate the area by the formula. Take down the average reading. Procedure :

Lab work :

Calculation : Area = M(F.R-I.R + 10N + C) 100(3.184-1.924 +10+0) 1126 cm 2 Average area = (1126+1127.8+1128)/3 1127.26cm 2 Observation table : Sr No. I.R F.R F.R –I.R M N C (Constant) Area Avg. area 1 1.924 3.184 1.260 100 1 1126 2 3.184 4.462 1.278 1 1127.8 3 4.462 5.742 1.280 1 1128 1127.26
