Heat Exchanger? A Heat exchanger is a device in which energy is transferred from one fluid to another across a solid surface.

Function - basics PHE = Plate Heat Exchanger Consists of a plate pack assembled into a frame The plates are pressed in a corrugated pattern Two plates creates channels in which the fluid flows in a turbulent manner The fluids are separated by the plates and heat is exchanged mainly by convection

Cold in Hot out Hot in Cold out Plate pack - example single pass End Plate II End Plate I Channel plates Only 2 plates that do not transfer heat - the endplates

PHE – Without insulation

Accessories Cooling insulation with drip tray

Operation and Maintenance How to handle your PHE

Routine operation checks Primary and Secondary Side Temperatures (4) Primary and Secondary Side Flows (2) Primary and Secondary Side Pressure Drops (2) Q= m p (cp) p ( Δ T in – Δ T out ) p = m s (cp) s ( Δ T in - Δ T out ) s Check visually for leakages Follow operation and Maintenance manual Mark the HEX serial number (301xx-xxxxx) on the Insulation, this is crucial information required when calling for service support!

Plate - parallel flow (Symmetrical flows only)
