In order that a plant is able to produce seeds, the male and female gametes must come together.
The male gamete is produced by the androecium within the pollen grain, while the female gamete is produced by the gynoecium within the ovule.
Pollination is the process that helps in bringing male and female gametes together.
Self-pollination and cross-pollination are two major ways. Flowering plants are adapted to use vivid agents, like biotic and abiotic.

Contain What is pollination ? Process of Pollination. Types of Pollination . Self Pollination. Cross Pollination. Significance of Pollination. Summary
What is Pollination ? Pollination is defined as the transfer of pollen grains from the anther to the stigma. Pollination may involve a single flower, or two different flowers on the same plant, or flowers present on two different plants of seam species.
Process of Pollination The process of pollination begins when the pollen grains from the different flowers of the same species land on the stigma and form a pollen tube with the style length, which connects both the stigma and ovary. The pollen tube contains the male gametes which eventually fuses with the egg cell inside the embryo sac. Fusion of the male gamete and egg is termed fertilization, which helps in the formation of a zygote and eventually a seed. Seeds develop into new plants.
Types of Pollination
Self Pollination ** Self pollination is the transfer of pollen grains from the anther to the stigma of the same flower or two different flower of a same plant.
Cross-Pollination ** Cross-pollination is the transfer of pollen grains from anther to stigma of two different plant of same species by the help of biotic or abiotic agent.
Agents Of Cross-Pollination : There are two main groups of agents: Biotic agents : which include animals of different types such as insects, birds etc. Abiotic agents : like water and wind
The major significance of pollination are: Since the male and female gametes of flowering plants are non-motile, pollination brings them closer together so that fertilization can take place. Cross-pollination helps in the evolution of species, as it brings new combinations of genes. Significance of Pollination
In order that a plant is able to produce seeds, the male and female gametes must come together. The male gamete is produced by the androecium within the pollen grain, while the female gamete is produced by the gynoecium within the ovule.
