Polyether ether ketones Prepared By M. Usman BhATTI 14MME-S1-307 5 TH SEMESTER

Introduction Polyether ether ketone(PEEK) is a semi-crystalline, high temperature thermoplastic with outstanding mechanical and chemical resistance properties that are retained even at high temperatures. Melting point 343 °C Density 1.3-1.5 g/cm3 Glass transition temperature 240°C Impact strength 78-120J/m

Polyether ether ketones are manufactured by step growth polymerization by dialkylation of bisphenolate salts.   4,4'- difluorobenzophenone reacts with disodium salt of hydroquinone to PEEK. MANUFACTURING MANUFACTURES RTP company Victrex Zeus SGL Carbon Group

Research article Mechanical and thermal expansion properties of glass fibers reinforced PEEK composites at cryogenic temperatures PEEK is widely used as matrix material for high performance composites. In this work, 30% chopped glass fibers reinforced PEEK composites were prepared by injection molding Then the tensile, flexural and impact properties were tested at different temperatures Results showed a dependence of mechanical properties of glass fibers reinforced PEEK composites on temperature Also the thermal expansion of unfilled and glass fibers reinforced PEEK were investigated which indicated that thermal expansion of PEEK was nearly a constant but it can be significantly decreased by adding glass fibres . Research Article 2 Thermal aging and reinforcement type effects on the tribological, thermal, thermomechanical properties of PEEK composites In this work, thermal aging process was applied to glass fiber and carbon fiber PEEK composites and their effect on different properties were determined Results showed that a transcrystalline layer was formed between the fiber and matrix in the composite This layer affected the fiber-matrix adhesion which reduced the energy dissipation and improved the properties So as a result of this study, it was proved that the thermal aging process is an effective method to improve the tribological, thermal and thermomechanical properties.

Conclusions PEEK is a colorless organic thermoplastic having high chemical and thermal resistance and is used extensively in medical field due to its non- toxicness and in the aerospace industry due to its light weight and it is at the top of the list in its family due to its properties and applications
