SIMPLE PLAYS ON BASKETBALL
Pick and Roll An offensive player sets a screen for another offensive player who currently has the ball. This is also known as a ball screen. (The Pick) The offensive player dribbles around the ball screen and looks to score. The screener, opens up to the ball, and cuts to the basket. (The Roll)
Alley- oop is an offensive play in which one player throws the ball near the basket to a teammate who jumps, catches the ball in mid air and puts it in the hoop before touching the ground . The alley- oop combines elements of teamwork, pinpoint passing, timing and finishing.
Fast Break Fast break is an offensive strategy in basketball and handball. In a fast break, a team attempts to move the ball up court and into scoring position as quickly as possible, so that the defense is outnumbered and does not have time to set up. There are various styles of the fast break and the fast break attack is the best method of providing action and quick scores
Isolation The isolation play is quite possibly the simplest in basketball: As teammates back away to draw their defenders as far from the ball as possible, the ball-handler tries to beat a defender one-on-one . Every team at every level of basketball runs isolation plays, or iso plays, at some point during a game.
Post Up is to establish a position in the low post , the area near the basket below the foul line, usually in order to take advantage of a smaller defender. The offensive player usually faces away from the basket, so that his body can protect the ball from the defender.
