This research uses qualitative methods and descriptive analysis, as well as Roland Barthes' semiotic theory. Through Roland Barthes' semiotic theory with denotation, connotation and myth, researchers can understand messages or symbols that are expressed or implied through dialogue, taking pictures and movements of the Freedom Writers players. Based on one analysis, there is an implicit message about being a teacher not only as a teacher but also being controlled as an educator and being able to use the right method based on the background of the student. INTRODUCTION Through the signs, symbols and icons contained in it. This film is worth watching, besides because it has good cinematography, the audience will get valuable lessons from the film. Sometimes, the moral message in a film doesn't get enough attention by the audience. Many of them just enjoy the storyline and visualization. If you look carefully in a film, it can be an inspiration for the audience. They can take lessons, which can be realized in real life. In the film Freedom Writers, there are many moral messages that want to be conveyed to the audience. With this background, researchers are interested in finding out more about the symbolic meaning of the moral message that is to be conveyed in the film Freedom Writers.

METHODOLOGY The method used in this research is descriptive analysis which uses the Roland Barthes' model, which focuses on the idea of ​​two-stage significance (two orders of significance). Which is the first stage of significance is the relationship between the signifer (marker) and signinified (sign) in a sign to external reality. In the second stage of content-related significance, the sign works through the myth. Myth is how culture explains or understands some aspects of reality or natural phenomena.

FINDINGS AND DISCUSSIONS In fact, many moral messages are conveyed through films and this can be a valuable lesson for people like film lovers. However, a quality film is not certain that all moral messages can be understood by the audience . For this reason, on this occasion the writer tries to analyze the meaning of denotation, connotation and myths of a film Freedom Writers in the view of Roland Barthes.

CONCLUSION The denotative meaning of the film, which is based on a true story, begins with the story of an teacher, Erin Gruwell , who is mired in the lives of her students. Then, Gruwell's actions and empathy for them fostered an awareness of the meaning of mutual respect and respect. The meaning of the connotation of the film Freedom Writers is that the director deliberately tells the story of racial warfare where there are many negative, useless and unworthy sides. The learning method of a teacher is able to improve and stimulate students to study hard.

Meanwhile, at this stage, the mythical meaning of this film is dedicated to California teenagers who were involved in racial riots after the 1992 Los Angeles riots. Erin Gruwell was able to teach them the meaning of racial tolerance and foster their interest in learning so they can graduate from the school.
