Properties of Raw Material for Powders The raw material to be used for manufacturing powder should be of good quality. Material should not be hard. If the materials are crystals in nature they must not have any sharp edges or points. These can damage the skin. The material should be non-irritating and non-toxic to the skin. The material must be chemically neutral and should not interact with each other.

General Preparation The preparation of powder is simple as it is simply a matter of dry mixing of finely powdered materials . Add perfume with a part of absorbent materials like calcium carbonate or with magnesium carbonate and keep it aside for some time. Mix the colour with part of the talc properly and add the other powders and then the perfume mixture. Mix and sieve the powder mixture using a silk mesh or an old washed nylon cloth.
Talcum Powders Amongst the various cosmetics, body powder is one of the widely consumed cosmetic preparations. Main use of body powders is to absorb moisture or perspiration specially after bathing particularly in warmer countries. Colour is not used in body powders.

General Preparation Take 0.5 g of zinc stearate, 7 g of talc, 0.25 g of zinc oxide, 0.5 g of calcium carbonate and a pinch of mixture containing kaolin, silica and starch in a grinder. Grind all the ingredients taken in the grinder manually and properly. Add 1-2 drops of perfume.
