Guess who am I? I am an even number less than 18 and divisible by 5. I am an odd number between 20 and 30 and divisible by 5. I am greater than 20 less than 40 and divisible by 10.

Find out the pairs which give us the product 12

1 × 12 = 12 2 × 6 = 12 3 × 4 = 12 What did you understand from the above number sentences? Factors of 12

Objectives: Students will be able to: Understand the concept of factors Find the common factors. Apply the concept of factors in real life.

1 X 12 = 12 2 X 6 = 12 3 x 4 = 12 1 , 12 , 2 , 6 ,3 and 4 are all the numbers we multiplied to get 12. These 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 6 and 12 are all factors of 12. The numbers that are multiplied to get a product are called its factors.

The factors of 12 : 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 ,6 , 12 The factors of 6 : Are you able to find out anything ? 1 is the factor of every number Every number is the greatest factor of itself The factors of a number are equal to or less than the number When a number is expressed as a product of its factors we say that the number has been factorized 1 , 2 , 3 , 6

FACTORS Write the factors of 18 1 × 18 = 18 2 × 9 = 18 3 × 6 = 18 So the factors of 18 are 1, 18, 2, 9, 3 & 6

What do you understand from the given diagram?

Common factors in real life. At a music concert, tabla players and sitar players are to be seated in equal groups on a stage. If there are 12 sitar players and 9 tabla players, what are the different kinds of equal groups that can be made with each group playing only one kind of instrument? Factors of 12 – 1,2,3,4,6,12 Factors of 9 – 1,3,9 Common factors are 1 and 3 They can be grouped as 1 player each or Groups of 3 each

Find the common factors (a) 48 and 32 (b) 18 and 42 © 36 and 48 A group of 10 Bharatanatyam dancers have to perform on the stage in equal groups. How many different kinds of equal groups they can make? Practice Task

Assessment [15 minutes] Independent task Shared task Guided Task 1) a) Factors of 18 b) Factors of 42 4) Find the common factors of 32 and 18. 7) Find the factors of 72. 2) Find the common factors of 45 and 25? 5) The number 18 has six factors. Two of these factors are 1 and 18. Find the other four? 8) Alan has 24 bottles of Indian spices and 16 bottles of foreign spices in his restaurant kitchen. Help him to store in racks with same number of bottles. 3) Mrs Sheela has 24 sarees. She likes to arrange them in equal sized piles in her cupboard. How many kinds of equal sized piles can she make? 6) The numbers 4 and 9 both have exactly four factors. Find two more numbers that have exactly four factors. 9) Form a real life situation where we make use of factors.

Development Math Lab Activity Draw the Venn diagram for 36 and 40 (2) Objective: To find the factors of numbers. Materials Required: Kidney beans/Counters/Buttons/Blocks and a recording sheet. Preparation: Students work in pairs with a bowl of kidney beans and a recording sheet. Number Factors 20 12 18 24

Plenary What is my number? It is a factor of 24, A factor of 40, and A factor of 52 But it is not the number ‘2’ My number is 4
