What is credibility?
- One that is written by someone who is an expert in their discipline and is free of errors and bias.
Examples: Peer reviewed journals Government agencies Research think tanks Professional organizations
Five main obligations: Currency - the timeliness of information Relevance - the importance of the information for your needs
Authority - the source of the information Accuracy - the reliability, truthfulness, and correctness of the content Purpose - the reason the information exists
Quality of sources
Begin by discerning the expected quality of resources in relation to the paper you are writing Assess the author credibility and bias Note whether the author has any professional affiliation, and how this affiliation connects to the author’s work.
Assess the level of information and interpretation the sources provides. Carefully consider the sources cited by your sources. Note how current the information is, especially if the material comes from the web.
