Math 6 Week 2 – Day 1 Division of Fractions and Mixed Numbers

Review Time! Let’s see if they still recall multiplying fraction. 1 1/5 x 4 4/5 =

Discussion Let’s watch the discussion in solving diving fraction. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAKwouL-lTc

Think-Pair-Share Think-pair-share: Using bar models, divide the following fractions. 1. 8 ÷ 1/2 2. 5/6 ÷ 3 3. 4/6 ÷ 1/3 4. 3 1/2 ÷ 1/3 5. 1/5 ÷ 2 1/5

Group Activity Solve the word problem and show the solution Group 1 – Emma Made 2/5 of quart of lemonade. She split them into cups with 1/6 of a quart in each. How many cups did she have? Group 2 – Sophia’s mom gave her 7/8 of a bag of candy hearts. She split those among her four best friends. How much of the bag did each friend get?

Group Activity Solve the word problem and show the solution Group 3 – The small dog eats ¾ of a cup of each day. How many full days will a bag with 4 cups lost? Group 4 – On a 2 mile stretch of road, there isa road sign every ¼ of a mile. How many signs are there on the entire stretch?

Let’s Try Again Individual Activity: Find each quotient. 1. 6/8 ÷ 1/3 2. 4 1/3 ÷ 7/5 3. 8 3/5 ÷ 4 4. 6 1/2 ÷ 2 1/3 5. 8/9 ÷ 2 1/2

Let’s Reflect In your everyday life, how can the concept of dividing fractions be helpful to you? Explain the reason of saying so.

Math 6 Week 2 – Day 2 Solving Routine Problems Involving Division without any other operations of Fractions and Mixed Fractions Using Appropriate Problem Solving Strategies and Tools

Let’s Start! Group Activity: The class will be divided in groups with five members. As a group, they will answer questions given by the teacher involving division of fractions. The group who will get the highest score will be declared the winner.

Let’s Try Again Solve the equation. ¾ ÷ ½ 2/3 ÷ ½ 2/4 ÷ 5/9 1/9 ÷ 6/8 5/9 ÷ 3/4

Can You Solve It? “There were 10 1/2 loaves of bread which were equally shared with 21 street children. What part of the bread did each child get?”

Polya’s 4 steps in solving problems: Understand the problem What is asked? What are the given? Devise a plan What operation to be used? What is the number sentence? Carry out the plan What is the complete solution? Look back and evaluate the solution

Think-pair-share: Instruction: Find a partner, using the steps you learn. Solve the problem given. 1.Sean and his sister, Betty equally mow 8/9 the total area of lawn. What fraction of the total area did each of them mow? 2. A glass pitcher holds 6 1/3 cups of pineapple juice. Tracy transfers the juice in equal amounts into 3 bottles. How many cups of juice will each bottle contain?

Group Activity Solve the following problem Group 1 & 3 A car travels 11 ½ km for every liter of gasoline. How many liters of gasoline are needed for a 46 km trip? Group 2 & 4 How many pieces of string 5 /6 dm long each an be cut rm 3 2/3 dm

Individual Work Instruction: In your notebook, solve these problems. Shane has a piece of rope that is 7 4/5 meters long. If he cuts it into pieces that are each 3/5 of a unit long, how many pieces does he have? 2. Dawn is making pan cakes for her friends. Each pan cake requires 4 1/3 table spoon of flour. If she has 10 friends, do you think 43 1/2 spoons of flour is enough? Explain.

Math 6 Week 2 – Day 3 Solving Routine Problems Involving Division without any other operations of Fractions and Mixed Fractions Using Appropriate Problem Solving Strategies and Tools

Let’s Start! What are the steps in solving problems in dividing fractions?   How can you relate these learning in your daily life?

How do we divide fractions? How do we solve word problems?

Let’s Solve (Combination of different operations) Analyze and differentiate it from other problems they have encountered. 1. Mother gave 2/7 of a cake to her sister and 1/5 to her father. If she will divide the remaining cake to her 3 children, what part of the cake will each get?

2. Mike drank 1/2 glass of milk at breakfast, 2/3 glass at lunch and 4/5 glass at dinner. If he has one bottle of milk which is good for 6 glasses, will it last for 4 days?

Individual Work Solve the following individually. 1. Margarita solicited 10 2/3 litres of paint for the Brigada Eskwela. Their City Mayor gave their school another 7 2/5 litres of paint. If each classroom needs 2 3/7 litres, how many classrooms can be painted?

2. Rona has 20 1/2 meters of cloth, she uses 2/3 of it for a girls’ dress. The remaining cloth will be used for a baby dress. If each dress needs 4/5 meters, how many baby dress can Rona make?

Math 6 Week 2 – Day 4 Creating problem (with reasonable answers) involving division without or with any of the other operations of fraction and mixed fraction.

Review Time Explain each step in dividing fraction. Do you this it is also like in your real life situation?

Task Instruction: Make your own word problem in dividing fractions. After creating, the paper will pass to your classmates and they will solve it.

Task Instruction: Make your own word problem in dividing fractions. After creating, the paper will pass to your classmates and they will solve it.

Solve the problem and show the solution Jose has to pack 20 kg of sugar in bags that contain 1/2 kg per bag. How many bags will he need to pack the sugar.

Group Work Each group will create their own equation that will be solved by dividing fractions. Each group will pass to other group and answer the equations.
