PROBLEM STATEMENT A STUDY TO EVALUATE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF ROLE PLAY ON KNOWLEDGE REGARDING IMPACT OF JUNK FOODS AMONG SCHOOL CHILDREN IN SELECTED SCHOOLS
INTRODUCTION Junk food is defined as easily prepared and consumed quick food. In 1972, Michael Jacobson correctly coined the term "junk food," which refers to the foods that are lacking in nutritional content or of no purpose. Junk food is referred to as "HFSS" (high fat, sugar, or salt). ). Over the past few decades, wealthy countries have seen a sharp rise in the prevalence of overweight and obese children. For instance, more than one in five youngsters in India is overweight or obese. According to the World Health Organization (2003), children who are overweight have a higher probability of becoming overweight adults and developing chronic diseases.
Junk food consumption is becoming popular among the school children who detest eating nutritious, prepared food. Junk food poses a health risk. Pizza and burger consumption raise cholesterol levels in the body and the human body becomes fatter. . The majority of school children this in this age consume junk food throughout mealtimes and develop an addiction to its flavour because it tastes so good but not good for the health. Junk food contributes to obesity
NEED FOR THE STUDY: According to NFHS (National Federation of State High School Associations) there is a list India ranked in order of percentage of people who are overweight or obese in which Punjab is in first position. Government surveys have shown that at least 16% of children aging 6 to 19 years old are considered overweight and at least 11% school children now are classified as obese. From above reports it is necessary for school children to know about the harmful effects of Junk food so that they can control the disease conditions and improve their health status. Therefore, this study is planned to structure a role play to educate the school children regarding harmful effects of Junk food which in turn is expected to increase the awareness about harmful effects of Junk food among school children

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM : A STUDY TO EVALUATE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF ROLE PLAY ONLEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE REGARDING IMPACT OF JUNK FOOD AMONG SCHOOL CHILDREN.
OBJECTIVES: • To assess the level of knowledge regarding impact of junk foods on health among school children. • To evaluate the effectiveness of role play on level of knowledge regarding impact of junk foods among school children. • To explore the association between selected demographic variables and the level of knowledge among school children.
ASSUMPTIONS School children are the vulnerable group exposed to the impact of junk food. School children have some knowledge regarding impact of junk food. Role play method will help to enhance the knowledge of school children regarding impact of junk food .
LIMITATIONS: The study is restricted to the, School children between the age group of 8-14 years. The study would help the school children to transfer information on healthy eating habits.
OPERATIONAL DEFINITION Effectiveness: it refers to the degree to which junk food consumptions influences or impact the level of knowledge among school children regarding its potential health effects. ROLE PLAY METHOD: It refers to a form of experiential learning .it involves individuals taking specific role related to the topic of junk food and its impact on health.
CONT..... IMPACT: impact refers to the influence or effect that junk food consumption has on the health . JUNK FOOD : It refers to the food that is high in salt, sugar or calorie and low in nutritive value which directly or indirectly poses health hazards. Junk foods are lollies, soft drinks and potato chips…,etc., School children: Children between the age group of 8-14 years.
HYPOTHESIS H₁. There will be significant difference between the pre-test and post-test Knowledge scores regarding the impact of junk food on the health of school children. H₂. There will be significant relationship between the level of knowledge regarding the impact of junk food on the health of school children with selected demographic variables.
REVIEW OF LITERATURE Based on the objectives of the present study, the review of literature is classified under the following headings: 1.studies related to prevalence of consumption of junk food. 2.studies related to the level of knowledge regarding impact of junk food among school children.

SCORING PROCEDURE The section deals with questionnaire for assessment of level of knowledge regarding impact of junk foods. It consists of 25 multiple choice questions related to levels of knowledge regarding impact of junk food among school children. Each correct answer will be given the score of one and the wrong answer will be given the score of zero. The total possible score will be 25
CRITERIA FOR SAMPLE SELECTION INCLUSION CRITERIA School children both boys and girls between the age of 8-14 years. School children who will be present and willing to participate during the period of data collection. EXCLUSION CRITERIA School children who will not be present during the period of data collection
