Site management plan Nubian Monuments from Abu Simbel to Philae
Date of Inscription: 1979 Desription : This outstanding archaeological area contains such magnificent monuments as the Temples of Ramses II at Abu Simbel and the Sanctuary of Isis at Philae, which were saved from the rising waters of the Nile thanks to the International Campaign launched by UNESCO, in 1960 to 1980.

Property and ownership Property : 374.48 ha. No buffer zone. Coordinates: N22 20 11.004 E31 37 33.996 The WHS is the property of the Egyptian State, under the supervision of the Ministry of Antiquities (Heritage Unit – Department of International Organizations for Cultural Heritage and International Cooperation).
Legislation 3.2.2 Law no. 117 of 1983, as amended by Law no. 3 of 2010 Promulgating the Antiquities’ Protection Law includes laws regarding development projects in or near registered archaeological sites. The WHS is also bound by the UNESCO World Heritage Convention and its Operational Guidelines.
Authenticity F orm and design: The temples all maintain their original form and design. M aterials and substance: The temples still maintain their original materials and substance and conservation work is done according to international standards. L ocation and setting: Despite the fact that the temples were moved during the construction of Aswan Dam, the temples were just moved above the water level, but are still in their original setting. S pirit and feeling: The move was done in such a way that the original spirit and feeling have not been affected.
Integrity a) includes all elements necessary to express its Outstanding Universal Value; b) is of adequate size to ensure the complete representation of the features and processes which convey the property’s significance; c) suffers from adverse effects of development and/or neglect.
Management plan WHS consists of many monuments, and currently lacks a comprehensive management plan. The project has a community engagement component. MoA is currently working with UNESCO on a Signage project for World Heritage Sites. MoA is working with the Aswan Governorate and other stake holders on the development of Abu Simbel.
