THE IMPACT OF TECHNOLOGY IN ICT STRAND AT MACUTAY-PALAO NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

CHAPTER | BACKROUND OF THE STUDY

INTRODUCTION

INTRODUCTION The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) strand at Macutay-Palao NHS recognize the transformative power of technology in education and prepares students for the digital landscape of the 21 st century with a focus on practical skills and theoretical knowledge, the ICT curriculum integrates various technologies to equip students with the necessary tools for success in the tech industry. The use of technology in the ICT strand at Macutay-Palao NHS is an important aspect of the curriculum. The ICT strand, which stands Information Communication and Technology, is one of the strand offered under the Technical – Vocational Livelihood(TVL) track of K-12 curriculum.

INTRODUCTION In the ICT strand, students are taught various concept and skills related to information technology. This includes learning about different technologies, such as computer hardware and software, networking, programming, and multimedia production. Allowing them to gain their hands on experiences and develop proficiency in this essential technological domains. Through practical projects and assignments students learn to apply their knowledge in real world scenarios, fostering problem-solving and critical thinking abilities .

INTRODUCTION . The integration of technology in the ICT strand at Macutay-Palao NHS aims to prepare students for future careers in the field of information and communication technology. By equipping students with relevant knowledge and skills, they are better prepared to pursue careers in areas software development, network administration, digital media production and data analysis. The use of technologies in the ICT strand also helps students develop essential digital literacy skills, which are increasingly important in todays digital age. It allows students to become familiar with various software applications, online tools and digital resources, enabling them to effectively navigate and utilize technology in their personal and professional lives.

INTRODUCTION . Macutay-Palao NHS utilize online platform and communication tools to facilitate discussion, share resources and provide feedback. This not only promote active learning but also prepares students for the collaborating nature of the ICT industry. Through online forums and group projects. Students learn to work effectively in teams, enhance ideas league technologies to achieve common goals. Overall , the use of technologies in the ICT strand at Macutay-Palao National School plays a crucial role in preparing students for the digital world and equipping them with the necessary skills to thrive in the field of information and communication technology.

INTRODUCTION . STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM What is the extent of ICT usage among Grade 11 learners at Macutay-Palao National High School? How serious are the problems encountered by Grade 11 students when ICT?

INTRODUCTION . STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM HYPOTHESIS There are no significant differences in the extent or technology usage among students in the ICT strand at Macutay-Palao National High School.

INTRODUCTION . STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM HYPOTHESIS SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS Scope : The study focuses on Grade 11 learners in ICT strand at Macutay-Palao National High School it examines the extent of ICT usage and seriousness of encountered problem of this S.Y. 2023-2024.     Limitations : The study limited to the student enrolled in the ICT strand at Macutay-Palao National High School and may not be representative of other school’s experience.

CHAPTER || REVIEW of RELATED LITERATURE

A study conducted by Reyes and Dela Cruz (2018) examined the impact of digital tools and resources on student learning in ICT classrooms. The researchers found that the use of interactive whiteboards, educational software, and online learning platforms significantly improved student engagement and academic performance. The study highlighted the importance of providing students with access to cutting-edge technology and integrating it seamlessly into the ICT curriculum.   Similarly, Gonzales and Tan (2020) investigated the challenges and best practices in implementing a technology-driven ICT curriculum. Their findings suggest that providing adequate teacher training, ensuring reliable internet connectivity, and fostering a collaborative learning environment are crucial factors for the successful integration of technology in the ICT strand. The researchers emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to technology integration, involving both infrastructure and pedagogical support.

Furthermore, a report by the Department of Education (2019) highlighted the importance of aligning the ICT curriculum with the evolving technological landscape. The report recommends that schools regularly update their ICT resources and curriculum to ensure that students develop the necessary digital skills for the 21st-century workforce. This recommendation is particularly relevant for Macutay-Palao National High School, as it strives to prepare its students for the demands of the modern job market .   Another study conducted from Latour (1990) is that is it possible to devise a set of concepts that could replace the technology/society divide? This set of new concepts -association and substitution - might help to rephrase some of the traditional questions of social order and especially that of the durability of domination of power. However, instead of using different tools to analyze power and weakness, it is argued that power and domination are simply different values of variables that should be studied in their whole range. By reconstructing networks, it is argued that a full description of power and domination may be obtained.

According to Hackley (2016) technologies distance learning is becoming increasingly important to business curricula. However, little theoretical development or empirical research has examined teaching effectiveness in distance learning. Thus, this article draws from research in management communications, education, and information systems to develop an initial conceptualization of influences on technology-mediated distance learning outcomes. It then reports on an exploratory study utilizing both qualitative and quantitative techniques to examine the ICT Students reactions to such distance learning.   Another study from Bakinde, Suliat A. (2020). Through the use of technology, every student in Macutay-Palao National High basically has the world in their hands. With just a few clicks, students can easily access all the information and materials they need in order to comprehend different topics better and succeed in the process. In certain situations, every student can face problems dealing with specific topics, and thanks to technology, this is no longer a problem since they can quickly look it up in different search engines or even ask for more explanation from their instructors.

Study from Samuel A. (2020). Effective technology integration alters the dynamics of the classroom, stimulating student-centered project-based learning. When using technology during the learning process, students are able to engage with their teachers and other students quickly and easily without wasting class time through chat rooms and other available applications. However, the incorporation of technology into the learning process has made it easy for students as well as teachers to access all the materials and sources that would help to explore and solve complex matters they may encounter during the learning and teaching process.   Ratheeswari, K. (2018). It is clear that both teachers and students make the most of what technology has to offer. One of the most significant advantages of using technology in the classroom is that it saves a lot of time. A number of apps are available to assist teachers in taking attendance so that the task does not consume too much of their time. Even if the teacher is busy getting ready for class, students can sign their names on a tablet as they walk in. The use of technology can completely eliminate numerous different problems; for instance, when students can access their assignments online, photocopying and stapling are no longer required.

With technological platforms that instantly interpret test answers on a large scale, grading is a piece of cake. Many apps provide teachers with status reports, allowing them to view each student’s progress. These reports also highlight opportunities for improvement, allowing teachers to identify learning difficulties earlier in the school year. Technology not only makes grading more accessible for teachers, but it also helps students get the help and attention they require. Body-Bekkadja, S. (2014).   References Department of Education.
