What is Education? Education is a process of receiving or giving systematic instruction, particularly at a school or university Education is the process of learning or the acquisition of knowledge, skill, values, beliefs and habits
What is mean by Teacher Education? Teacher education as a programme of education, research and training persons to teach from pre-primary to higher education level – NCTE Teacher Education = Teaching skill + Pedagogical Theory + Professional Skill
Nature of Teacher Education It is a continuous process and its pre-service and in-service It is based on the theory that – teachers are born, not made. Since teaching is considered an art and a science, the teacher has to acquire not only knowledge, but also skills. It is broad and comprehensive It is ever-evolving and dynamic It is a system that involves an interdependence of its inputs, processes and outputs
Pre-service Teacher Education Pre-service teacher education is the education and training provided to student teachers before they have undertaken any teaching. Teacher education program in India serve the varying needs of the diploma /degree level of teacher education and prepare teachers fro m Pre primary level to Institution/University level.
O bjectives of Pre-service Teaching ( i ) To provide they would be teacher with proper understanding regarding the aims and objectives of education. (ii) To promote in prospective teachers a proper understanding of the basic principles of child growth, development and process by which pupils learn. (iii) To enable them to plan and present subject- matter in a manner which will promote the interest, sense of purpose and an understanding process of pupil's growth. (iv) To develop communication and psychomotor skills and abilities conductive to human relations for interacting with children in order to promote learning in them both inside and outside the classroom. (v) To develop understanding, interests, attitudes and skills which would enable him promote all-round development of children under his/her care.
In-service Teacher Education According to Lawrence , “In-service education is the education a teacher receives after he has entered to teaching profession and after he has had his education in a teacher’s college . It includes all the programmes – educational, social and others in which the teacher takes a virtual part, all the extra education which he receives at different institutions by way of refresher and other professional courses and travels and visits which he undertakes
Objectives of In-service Teaching i . To equip the teachers with the latest content or subject matter their specialized fields. ii. To initiate the teachers in the habit of self-study with ultimate aim of keeping them be the latest developments in their own and allied filed. iii. To help the teachers learn economical and effective methods of teaching. iv. To develop suitable and varied programmes to meet individual needs, school needs, needs of the state with regard to educational extension. v. To follow-up the teachers who undergo in-service education to reinforce the objective training.
