2. PRESENT SIMPLE:
affirmative
I / you / we / they work(= infinitive)
He / She / it works(infinitive + -s)
•The third person singular adds –s to the infinitive.
•When the infinitive ends with a, i, o, u, -s, -sh,
-ch, and -x, we add –es.

•When the verb ends with a consonant + y the
third person ends with –ies.

4. PRESENT SIMPLE:
affirmative
•I work in a bank.
•You live in Pisa.
•He likes football.
•She never arrives late.
•It rains a lot in England.
•We often go to work by bus.
•You speak French very well.
•They always finish at six.

5. PRESENT SIMPLE:
affirmative
•With the present simple we can use a frequency
adverb that is placed before the verb.

Sometimes
I never eat meat. I’m a vegetarian.
TO BE: She is never late.

6. PRESENT SIMPLE:
affirmative
•We can also use other frequency expressions
such as:
every + noun ( every year, every day...)
once a ... ( once a week)
twice a... (twice a month)
three, four ... times a (six times a year)
We have a shower every day.
He goes swimming twice a week.

7. PRESENT SIMPLE: negative
•I / you / we / they do not / don’t + infinitive
•He / she / it does not / doesn’t + infinitive
I don’t drink coffee We don’t work
You don’t do judo You don’t live here
He doesn’t study They don’t like it
She doesn’t speak French
It doesn’t finish at eight

8. PRESENT SIMPLE: questions
(question w.)+ do / does + subject + infinitive …?
(where) do I / you / we / they work ?
(when) does he / she / it start ?

We also use do / don’t / does / doesn’t in
short answers.

9. PRESENT SIMPLE: questions
Where do I have to go?
Do you like horror films?No, I don’t.
How does he come to school?
Does she study at university? Yes, she does.
What does the snake eat?
Do we need the passport? No, we don’t.
Who do you work with?
Do they always go by car? Yes, they always do.

10. PRESENT SIMPLE: use
•We use the present simple for:
A Facts that are true in general.
The Earth goes round the Sun.
I like big cities.
We do a lot of different things in our free time.
B Habits, routines and timetables.
The shops open at 9.30 and close at 8.
He has breakfast at home.
The train leaves at 4 o’clock.
