What is past tense & present perfect? Simple past tense is a type of sentence that is used to tell events that happened in the past which have been completed or ended in the past as well. So we will use this tense when we tell our activities that have been completed in the past. Present perfect tense is a grammatical tense used to show an activity in the past that is still happening today. 2
The function of past tense To describe an event that occurred in the past and was completed at a specified time. To describe several events or activities that have taken place in the past. Usually these events happened in sequence. To describe events that started and ended in the past and usually have a duration. Duration words used include for two years, for five minutes, all day, all year, and others. To tell the facts or things that were common in the past and are no longer true today. This function is similar to the use of "used to".

Affirmative Sentence: Subject + Verb 2 Negative Sentence: Subject + did + not + Verb 1 Interrogative Sentence: Did + subject + Verb 1 + ? So, for verbal sentences, if the sentence is a positive tense, make sure that the verb you use is verb 2.
