YOGA Introduction:Yoga is essentially a spiritual discipline based on an extremely subtle science, which focuses on bringing harmony between mind and body. It is an art and science of healthy living. The word ‘Yoga’ is derived from the Sanskrit root ‘Yuj’, meaning ‘to join’ or ‘to yoke’ or ‘to unite’.

TYPES OF YOGA Balasana Tadasana Dandasana Baddha Konasana Utthita Trikonasana

1.BALASANA An āsana (Sanskrit: आसन) is a body posture, originally and still a general term for a sitting meditation pose, and later extended in hatha yoga and modern yoga as exercise, to any type of position, adding reclining, standing, inverted, twisting, and balancing poses. The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali define “asana” as “[a position that] is steady and comfortable”. Patanjali mentions the ability to sit for extended periods as one of the eight limbs of his system. Asanas are also called yoga poses or yoga postures in English.

Benefits of balasana The benefits of practicing asanas are described as improving flexibility, strengthening muscles, reducing stress and anxiety, and enhancing concentration. Common asanas are explained like mountain pose, cobra pose, and headstand which aid in strengthening the spine, shoulders, core and improving balance and posture.

2.TADASANA Tadasana is the basic standing asana on which many other poses are founded. The feet are together and the hands are at the sides of the body. The posture is entered by standing with the feet together, grounding evenly through the feet and lifting up through the crown of the head.

3.DANDASANA Dandasana is an asana that may have benefits for the body. ‘Danda’ means staff or stick, and ‘asana’ means pose. Hence, dandasana is also known as stick pose or staff pose. It is a seated pose, where the staff represents the straight and strong spinal column.

4.BADDHA KONASANA Baddha Konasana (Bound Angle Pose) is a go-to pose for opening the hips and stretching the inner thigh muscles. This seemingly simple pose also strengthens your core and improves your posture. Also known as Cobbler’s Pose, this asana activates the muscles in your back as you lengthen and stretch through your spine.

5.UTTHITA TRIKONASANA Trikonasana or Utthita Trikonasana (Sanskrit: उत्थित त्रिकोणासन; IAST: utthita trikoṇāsana), [Extended] Triangle Pose is a standing asana in modern yoga as exercise.Variations include Baddha Trikonasana (bound triangle pose) and Parivrtta Trikonasana (revolved triangle pose).

Benefits of utthita trikonasana It tones the muscles of the legs (Grabara & Szopa, 2015).
It helps in removing stiffness from the legs and hips.
It also helps correct any minor deformity in the legs, allowing them to develop fully and evenly.
It helps in strengthening the ankles.
It helps in developing the chest muscles.
