2.1 Understanding and applying with TED © Cambridge University Press 2018

Step 1 : small groups As a group, write a one-sentence summary of your speech segment. © Cambridge University Press 2018

Step 2 : group representatives Select one group member to serve as the team representative . Representatives should bring an enlarged copy* of their group's one-sentence summary up to the front of the room.   * Summaries should be written on larger paper and in marker so the audience can see it from a distance. © Cambridge University Press 2018

Step 3 : group representatives Share your one-sentence summaries with each other until you can determine the original order in which your group's speech segments should appear. Recall details from memory as needed to assist you. Read each summary aloud one-by-one to the class . © Cambridge University Press 2018

Step 4: audience Assess the order of ideas as represented by the one-sentence summaries . Does the 'flow' of ideas make sense? What feedback or information can you offer to restore the speech to its original order of ideas? © Cambridge University Press 2018

Step 5 : audience Evaluate the strength of each individual group's one-sentence summary. Too much information ? Too little ? Just right?   © Cambridge University Press 2018

Step 6: whole class Determine the  organisational structure the speaker is likely using to order his ideas . Justify your response. Why this structure/pattern as opposed to another ? Justify your response .  © Cambridge University Press 2018
