Introduction Core spinning is an excellent method to create wild yarns Core-spun yarns have a central core that is wrapped with staple fibres , and are produced in a single operation at the time of spinning. Core-spun yarns are two-component structure with Core and sheath. Generally continuous filament yarn is used as core and the staple fibres used as sheath covering. The core-spun yarn used to enhance functional properties of the fabrics such as strength, durability and stretch comfort.

Spun Vs Core Spun Yarn Core Spun Yarn threads are made by spinning 100% Polyester staple fibers into yarns, after which plying those yarns into a stitching thread. Spun Polyester threads are usually made in or three-ply structures relying on the yarn size.

Features of Core Spun Yarns Core Spun Yarn has wide-ranging features that help itself get flourished in the Garment Industry. T he following features in of core spun yarns are:- Softness. Shape recovery. Easy-to Care. Better Flexibility. Higher Tenacity. Great consistency in terms of size and other physical features. Expensive Cost. Fire-resistant fibers, etc

Effect of process variables in Ring Core-spun yarn properties Core- sheath ratio It has been found that decreasing sheath content will increase the strength of the core-spun yarn . Pre- tension to Core material The pretension is needed to regulate the geometrical position of the filament. This input tension varies with the twist factor, size and the quality of the filaments used . Spinning draft Spinning drafts can be varied to obtain the required yarn count based on the core the sheath ratio .

Effect of process variables in Ring Core-spun yarn properties Number of Roving feeds: The possible ways of feeding the core material at the front roller nip with respect to roving are: Filament in the centre of the roving. Filament on the top of the roving . Twist Adequate cohesion obtained in individual yarns at high twist rates and it minimizes the sheath slippage. The extension of the core-spun yarn tends to reduce at higher twist levels.

Advantages & Disadvantages Advantages The surface of the sewing machine yarn made of core-spun yarn will not melt due to friction during high-speed operation. Polyester-cotton shirts made of core-spun yarn have better hygroscopicity and air permeability, no static electricity, and are comfortable to wear. The elasticity of the core-spun yarn with spandex as the core is better. Disadvantages The scope of use of core-spun yarn is relatively narrow . The yarn made of core spun yarn is sometimes not very good.

Application of Core Spun Yarns Core spun yarns can be found in different blends & types. They are mostly used in industrial sewing because of their immense stretch ability, durability, and strength. There are numerous applications of core-spun yarn. As threads, it can be used in leather products, mattresses, and quilts such as women’s shoes, handbags, etc. The immense strength and durability make the core-spun yarn used widely in rice bags too.
