Leadership Leadership is the act of guiding a team or individual to achieve a certain goal through direction and motivation. Leaders encourage others to take the actions they need to succeed. To be a great leader, it is necessary to learn and cultivate the skills it takes to be effective.

Traditional Theories Of Leadership As a leader, it is important to understand the different theories that have been developed over the years in order to further your own knowledge and effectiveness.Traditional leadership theories can be classified into three different categories: Trait, Behavioral, and Situational.

Trait Theory Trait theory is the belief that leaders are born, not made. This theory focuses on the personal characteristics of leaders, such as intelligence, charisma, and ambition.

Behavioral theory Behavioral theory posits that leadership is a function of how leaders behave. This theory emphasizes the need for leaders to be able to adapt their behavior to the specific situation in order to be effective.

Situational theory Situational theory holds that there is no one best style of leadership and that the best course of action depends on the specific situation. This theory takes into account factors such as the leader’s personality, the group’s makeup, and the task at hand.

Contemporary Theory Of Leadership Contemporary theory o f l eadership can be classified into seven different categories: 1. Transformational leadership 2. paradoxical leadership 3. Authentic 4. Ethical 5. Servant 6 . Implicit 7. Daring leadership.

Transformational leadership Transformational leadership emphasize the character characteristics and actions that people might adopt to improve their leadership skills.

Paradoxical leadership In the field of management, “paradox” is “long interdependent and contradictory elements”, paradoxical leadership is a leadership style in which managers adopt contradictory but interconnected behaviors to satisfy the needs of organizational structure and the needs of employees' work.

Authentic leadership The next type of leadership theory is authentic leadership theory that emphasizes the importance of leaders being genuine, self-aware, and true to their values and beliefs. Authentic leaders build trust and inspire followers through their transparency and ethical behavior.

Ethical leadership Ethical leadership is leadership that is directed by respect for ethical beliefs and values and for the dignity and rights of others.Ethics is concerned with the kinds of values and morals an individual or a society finds desirable or appropriate.A leader's choices are also influenced by their moral development.

Servant Leadership Servant leadership theory proposes that leaders should prioritize the needs of their followers above their own self-interest. They focus on serving and supporting their team members, fostering a sense of community, and promoting personal growth and development.

Implicit leadership theory Implicit leadership theory is formed when an individual observes leadership types and learns more from one's own perspective. It is a situation that leads to developing personal beliefs on leadership. Therefore, the combination of knowledge and observed leadership styles developed the implicit leadership theory.

Daring leadership It is about being able to take risks, make decisions and stand by them. Daring leadership is about having the courage to do what is right, even when it is hard. It is about speaking up, taking action and making a difference.

Leadership and follower model What are the Challenges of followership? Followership problems manifest themselves in a poor work ethic, bad morale, distraction from goals, unsatisfied customers, lost opportunities, high costs, product quality issues and weak competitiveness.

What are the Opportunities of followership? As a follower, you have the opportunity to develop yourself as a leader of the future. This might be through observing the strengths and weaknesses of your leader, or through the support, advice and development opportunities that they give you. Many of the skills and attributes you develop as an effective follower are mirrored in an effective leader, for example: courage , judgement , communication , independent thinking , initiative , self-awareness and self-management , commitment , diplomacy , collaboration , influencing.

Building effective leader follower relationship At best, both leaders and followers embrace a set of assets that reflect the business and collaboration needs. Full engagement, independence, initiative, activity, and courage are the qualities that unite leaders and followers, making them a cohesive team working for common purposes.

It’s important for a company’s success that every element of its internal environment operates following business goals, strategy, and ability to ensure the competitiveness of the company in its field; the same applies to employees and their role within the company, regardless of the position they occupy. A leader is incapable of doing his job effectively without a good team, and it’s difficult for the team to move forward with the company’s goals without a knowledgeable and motivating leader.
