2. What is the CPU in a computer? The Central Processing Unit (CPU) is the primary component of a computer that acts as its “control center.” The CPU, also referred to as the “central” or “main” processor, is a complex set of electronic circuitry that runs the machine’s operating system and apps. Three (3) Components of CPU:
1. Control Unit
2. Arithmetic Logic Unit
3. Memory Unit

3. 1. CONTROL UNIT (CU) • The Control Unit (CU) is a critical component of a computer’s central processing unit (CPU). It plays a crucial role in the execution of instructions and the overall coordination of the CPU’S operation.

4. Sub Components of Control Unit: Instruction Register The Instruction Register holds the current instruction being executed. Instruction Decoder The instruction decoder is responsible decoding the instruction stored in the IR.

5. Address Register Address Register Address Register is small, fast storage location within the CPU used to store temporary data. Instruction Counter The Program Counter is a register that keeps track of the memory address of the next instruction to be fetched.

Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU) ALU stands for Arithmetic and Logical Unit which performs Arithmetic functions like Addition, subtraction, division, etc. CU stands for control unit which performs the task of controlling functions of the computer. It monitors and gives proper instructions to all parts of the computer.

7. 3. Memory Unit The memory unit is a component of a computer system. It is used to store data, instructions and information. It is also known as a principal/primary/internal memory. There are two types of memory.
