DESORPTION PROCESS OF CARICA PAPAYA STEM ACTIVATED CARBON USED FOR MINING WASTEWATER TREATEMENT BY OLAJESU OLUWABUKOLA VICTORIA FPA/CE/18/3-0051 RUFUS MOSEBOLATAN NOAH FPA/CE/18/3-0069 SAMSON AYOBAMI ISAAC FPA/CE/18/3-0070 SUBERU ABDULAI OJO FPA/CE/18/3-0071 DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL ENGINEERING SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING THE FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC, ADO-EKITI EKITI STATE, NIGERIA. DECEMBER, 2020.

PRESENTATION OUTLINES Introduction Literature Review Methodology

INTRODUCTION caricapaya is a tropical fruit cultivated widely in eqitaria and

AIM AND OBJECTIVES Aim The aim of this research is to analyze the desorption process of activated carica papaya stem used for mining wastewater treatment .

Objectives The objectives are to determine the: carry out batch adsorption experiments using selected parameters (adsorbent dosage, agitation rate, contact time, grain size, pH and temperature) for removal of selected heavy metal ions from igbeti mining wastewater. desorb the adsorbents used for the batch adsorption experiments Establish the efficiency of the adsorbents.

JUSTIFICATION OF THE STUD Y This project was carried out to remove heavy metals from the absorbent and reused. This project provide a cost effective and evironmentally friendly option for treating wastewater

SCOPE OF THE STUDY This project research is limited to the analysis of desorption process of activated caricapapaya stem used for mining wastewater The wastewater sample will be taken from Igbeti mining wastewater and caricapaya system activated with and will be used. The activated carbon will be used to remediate selected heavy metal ions from the mining wastewater and desorb for reused purpose three times.

LITERATURE REVIEW GROUND WATER Ground water is simply water, mainly from rail and snow, but also from some human activities, that has soaked into soil. Some ground water may eventually become encased in rock, forming pressurized pockets known as confined aquifers.

LITERATURE REVIEW CONT’D GEOPOLYMER CONCRETE Geopolymer concrete is a type of concrete that is made by reacting aluminate and silicate bearing materials with a caustic activator ( Davidovits , 1991). Geopolymer concrete does not require heat to make it and it does not produce carbon dioxide. Standard Portland cement based concrete requires both heat and carbon dioxide (Fitzgerald, 2018).

LITERATURE REVIEW CONT’D CONSTITUENTS OF GEOPOLYMER CONCRETE The following are the constituents of Geopolymer concrete; Periwinkle shell ash and Rice hush ash rich in silica and aluminium Sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide Sodium silicate or potassium silicate.

METHODOLOGY Description of materials used Materials used in this research are ; Waste water Nitric Acid Buffer solution Aged caricapapaya stem P hosphoric Acid Hydrogen Chloride

METHODOLOGY CONT’D Experimental Program of work The following test were carried out for the purpose of this research work; Absorption test Desorption test AAS

Description of equipment used Equipment used in this research are ; Rotating speed machine Centrifuge PG 990 AAS machine Vacuum pump 425 micron sieve Weighing balance METHODOLOGY CONT’D
