3. 3 What is a GIF? GIFs which stands for Graphics Interchange Format, are picture files that contain short animations. Brief animations can be seen in image files called GIFs. GIFs, which are primarily used to create simple, repeating animations, are frequently used for sharing compact video clips on the web  or to add motion to images and text. GIFs are frequently used to share humorous or interesting information on social media platforms and throughout the internet since they may be created from a series of still images or from video footage.

Furthermore, this can be useful when loading photographs online because they can load faster without sacrificing quality. Lighter file formats, such as JPEG, may be more appropriate for internet photographs.

Disadvantages of the PDF File Extension: The files are difficult to edit. You would need to use a platform such as Adobe Acrobat and other costly PDF editing softwares to acquire the ‘editing’ function. This is a great disadvantage of the PDF as it doesn’t allow for corrections to be made easily. They do not support synchronous working, unlike with Google docs where it is possible for multiple users to work on one document simultaneously. A PDF has to be updated in real time so everyone can view the current version. This can make it difficult for team members to effectively collaborate. A PDF is essentially an image of your original document, making it difficult to extract images or texts from PDF files. Additionally, if your PDF is a scan of your original document, it can also be difficult to convert it back to a document which can be edited.

The output image, as result of compression, is a trade-off between storage size and image quality. Users can adjust the compression level to achieve the desired quality level while at the same time reduce the storage size. Image quality is negligibly affected if 10:1 compression is applied to the image.  The higher the compression value, the higher the degradation in image quality. . Disadvantages of the JPEG File Extension: JPEG does not support animations. If you need to create an animated image, you will need to use a different file format like GIF When heavily compressed, JPEG images may lose fine details and sharpness which can be particularly noticeable in images with text or complex patterns. JPEG does not support transparent backgrounds which can be a disadvantage when you need images with transparent or semi-transparent areas.

Usually, these files contain just one image, but they are can be used for more than just storing an image file. These extensions support multiple images, objects, text, filters, layers, vector paths, transparency, shapes, and much more. Disadvantages of the PSD File Extension: PSD files tend to be extremely large, since these lossless images use no compression. This preserves all image information, but can make the file itself unwieldy and difficult to email or transfer The PSD format is a proprietary Adobe file format. The company does not release its specifications to the general public. PSD support is often inconsistent outside of Adobe’s products Very few other programmes will understand open or import PSD files .

11. 11 EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) File Extension EPS is a vector file format often required for professional and high-quality image printing. PostScript printers and image setters typically use EPS to produce vast detailed images such as billboard advertising, large posters and attention-grabbing marketing collateral. Disadvantages of the EPS File Extension: It requires specialist software to be opened and edited. When these files are saved, they usually cannot be modified. To make changes, it has to be converted to its original design file. It’s not suitable for a fast-paced work environment.
