MOBILE PHONE CASE:- A Body Protection FOR YOUR DEVICE (Manufacturering),(Demand),(Business),(INSIGHTS) Presented By:- Rabi Sankar Mohanty
What is a cell phone case? Actually, a cell phone case is nothing but an accessory that is used to cover a cell phone. A cell phone case not only brings a modish look to a cell phone, but also brings protection while it falls on the ground or into the water. There are several mobile stores, where various high quality mobile cases are found within a very moderate price range. For having any more detailed information. You may consult with some experts, who are much knowledgeable regarding such aspects and deliver the outstanding information regarding this aspect.
How many different types of cellphone cases and covers are there? The different designs of cases and covers offer very different levels of style and protection, deciding which one to select is very much a lifestyle choice. Buying a mobile phone case or cover is usually a compromise between the getting the desired level of protection for the device and making it more difficult to use. The higher the level of protection offered by a case or cover, the more likely it is to interfere with the phone's ergonomics. Cases, which are designed to attach to, support, or otherwise hold a mobile phone, are popular accessories for many phones, particularly mainstream smartphones.
Different types of cases: - Case measures are based on the display inches (e.g. 5 inch display). There are different types: Plastic Cases Rugged Cases Mobile Skins and Covers Tough Cases Battery Cases Design Cases Diamond Cases Hard Cases Hybrid Cases Hybrid Cases with Stand Soft Silicone Cases TPU Rubber Cases Wallets and Pouches
Plastic Cases : There are several types of plastic commonly used in cell phone cases. These days the most popular is polycarbonate, an extremely hard plastic that is also used to make bulletproof windows and many other items. Polypropylene is a hard plastic often used to make protective cases. Polyurethane is the most versatile of the plastics used to craft cell phone cases. It can be hard or soft, and it can be shaped using a variety of different mold types. Polyurethane is easy to recycle, and you can sometimes find cell phone cases made with recycled products. Vinyl is another type of plastic that is often used to make cell phone skins, the very thin cell phone covers that are used more for decoration than protection.
Rugged cases :- At the top end in the safety stakes, you’ll find some seriously rugged cases, but they are going to be bulky and heavy. The inclusion of air pockets and reinforced corners dramatically reduces the risk of damage to your device, but it inevitably adds more bulk. They should also be easy to grip, even with wet hands, but you might find that makes it harder to slide them in and out of pockets. You may need to buy a belt clip or holster to accommodate the larger case.
Mobile Skins And Covers: The cell phone is always exposed to many factors that could destroy or shorten its lifespan. These dangers range from as simple yet annoying scratches to having the phone destroyed by natural elements such as the sun. Some of the cases are resistant to among other elements, dust and heat. For the reason that mobile skins and covers come in a variety of colors and patterns, it gives them an aesthetic function. This makes your phone look more unique and stylish. Because you will have it all the time, why not personalize it. Many individuals also choose to customize the case to match current fashion trends. The cases can be made from a number of materials such as plastic and leather. They also come in numerous sizes and shapes too. This enables them to become a perfect fit for your phone. A tight fit makes it easy to carry around.
Tough cases :- If you want a case that will definitely survive a drop, but you don’t want to add too much bulk or completely forfeit on style, then you’ll find loads of great tough cases to choose from. A standard combination that works very well is a layer of hard polycarbonate with an inner layer of something softer, like silicone, to absorb shock. Look for the military drop test certification.
Battery cases :- As far as complaints about mobile technology go, poor battery life still tops the charts. For smartphones, you can always look into getting an extended battery case. They typically have a battery built in that’s capable of juicing your smartphone for another few hours

The Manufacturing Process of Different Types of Mobile Phone Covers :- With the steady rise of smartphone usage in the last five years or so, mobile phone accessories have also gained a lot of popularity with the masses. While there are a lot of accessories available for smartphones, only a handful are actually useful. And one of the most useful accessories available today is probably cases for smartphones. Smartphones have indeed evolved to become very technologically advanced and sophisticated. They are capable of doing things that we would have never dreamed off a decade ago. However, as mobile phones have become more advanced, they have also become more and more fragile. Smartphone manufacturers will, of course, tell you that their products are capable of protecting themselves from most common accidents. But none of us a willing to trust their word, and take a chance especially if the smartphone is expensive.
According to a survey, people who don’t use mobile phone cases are 70 percent more likely to damage their phones compared to people who use protective covers. As a result, mobile phone cases have become very popular and today the cell phone cover industry has transformed into a multi-billion dollar industry. No matter what mobile case or cover you require – ranging from extremely rugged cases to ultra-thin covers – it is all there. People generally ask a lot of questions while shopping for a mobile back cover. They are concerned about the phone case material, quality, protection capability, durability, design, colour, style and value for money. One question that no one really asks (but dying to know the answer to) is how exactly mobile back covers are made. So in this article, we will be explaining in loving detail how different types of smartphones (cases and covers) are made. The first thing you ought to know is almost every mobile case available in the world is made in Asia (mainly China and Taiwan). Now that we have this small detail out of the way, let’s look at how different materials cases are exactly manufactured.
Process of how mobile cases are manufactured: 1. Plastic Cases Manufacturing Process :- There are basically three types of plastics used in the making cases. These are hard, soft and hybrid plastics. While hard plastic cases are made up of either polycarbonate, hard polyurethane or polypropylene, soft plastic covers are manufactured from regular polyurethane or thermoplastic polyurethane. Hybrid plastic cases, on the other hand, are made from a combination of the aforesaid compounds. Plastic cases are made with a custom-designed machine known as an injection mold. This machine is made with a mold base crafted from several chromium steel bars that are merged together into a block. A mold maker is used to shape the metal mold base into the desired shape. Holes are drilled into the mold for cooling fluids. Finally, once the mold base attains the correct design, it is smoothed and polished. Once it is ready, hold plastic (either hard, soft or hybrid) is poured into the injection mold. After that, cooling fluids are poured through the holes to help the plastic harden and cool. The plastic, which has now become hard, is then popped out of the mold, polished, decorated with appropriate patterns and style, packed and shipped.
2. Silicone Cases Manufacturing Process :- Silicone is a form of synthetic rubber that is used in a wide range of products including automotive applications, food storage products, clothing, footwear, electronics, medical devices and implants. Its elasticity and cushioning properties have also made a popular material in the manufacture of mobile covers and cases. The manufacturing process of silicone is pretty similar to plastic, albeit it is made with a different machine. A compression mold machine is usually used to manufacture silicone mobile phone cases. In this method, the pre-heated silicone material is placed in an open, heated mold cavity. The mold is then closed and pressure is applied until the material is shaped into the desired design. To put it in simple terms, a compression mold machine works by forcing soft silicone into desired shapes. Silicone cases are put under a lot of pressure for a long duration in the compression mold machine. This is done so that the product does not lose its shape. After the newly shaped silicone is removed from the mold, it is trimmed, painted, packaged and shipped off.
3. Wooden Cases Manufacturing Process :- Wooden cases are usually pretty expensive as it is made up of bamboo, teak or elm. While some are crafted by hand (which are bound to be even more expensive), most are factory made with a computer numerical control machine. Before we go any further, let us briefly understand what a computer numerical control machine is and how it works. The CNC machine, as the name suggests, is a machine that works automatically with the help of its inbuilt mini-computer. The instructions are fed through a small keyboard into the mini-computer, where they are stored in the system’s memory. After that, the CNC machine carries out the task with absolute precision. So most wooden case are usually manufactured using the CNC machine, which accurately carves the wood into the desired case design. The main advantage of using a CNC machine is that manufacturers are able to mass produce wooden cases quickly and accurately.
4. Leather Cases Manufacturing Process :- One of the oldest material to be used by man, leather is made from animal hide usually through the process of tanning. There are basically three types of leather used to make mobile phone cases: aniline leather, semi-aniline leather and pigmented leather: While aniline leather is the most natural leather (with visible pores, scars that were once in the skin), it is less durable and prone to wear and tear and fungal infestations. Semi-aniline leather, on the other hand, is more durable but less natural looking compared to aniline leather. Finally, pigmented leather is the most durable and the least natural looking among the three. Like wooden cases, many leather cases, which are usually folio-styled, are handcrafted. However, handcrafted are usually very expensive and more prone to wear and tear. Most leather cases, however, are produced in factories, the same way clothes and apparel are manufactured. After case designers come up with a design, a template is made and sent to the factory. The leather is then sewn together with strong thread by heavy-duty machines. After that additional things are added to the case depending on the design. Leather cases are usually supplemented with either hard plastic or aluminium to make them sturdier and more durable. Finally, the cases are polished, branded, customised, packed and shipped.
5. Metal Cases Manufacturing Process :- Metal cases are not usually people’s first choice, with most preferring to buy a silicone, plastic or a leather case. This is because metal cases are usually bulky, slippery and expensive. However, metal cases also come with a lot of pros as they offer some quality protection, look classy and prevent your device from overheating. Though cell phone cases are made from a number of metals and alloys, lightweight aluminium is generally preferred. This is due to the fact that aluminium is light in addition to being strong and durable. Metal cases are also made with the help of a CNC machine. The instructions are fed to the mini-computer, and the machine starts automatically producing metal cases with absolute precision. The process of manufacturing metal cases is somewhat similar to the process of making plastic cases, where the molten material is poured into a case shaped mold, put under pressure and cooled until it solidifies into the desired shape. However, unlike plastic, molten metal requires more time to cool. Many metal cases are also further processed (microarc oxidation or plasma electrolytic oxidation) to make them tougher and more durable. Finally, the metal cases are cleaned, polished, painted, packed and shipped.

How are designs and patterns printed on mobile cases ? Almost every case available these days (except leather) have images of abstract patterns, cartoon characters, quotes, animals or other designs printed on the back. How you ever wondered how manufacturers like stylebaby.com, zazzle.com and case-mate.com print these images on mobile phone cases? Most manufacturers have special printers that directly transfer the image on the surface of the mobile phone cover. These printers are capable of printing images on several covers at once. Some use a process called Spot UV Printing to print images and designs on mobile phone covers. In this process, a layer of paint is applied on the surface of the phone cover and exposed to ultraviolet light. The UV light dries and hardens the paint. The phone cover is then varnished so that the image doesn’t fade or peel off.

DEMAND OF MOBIE COVERS:- Market Research for Starting a Phone Case Business The phone case industry is huge and isn’t going to stop anytime soon. With more and more phones being released each year, the demand for new cases to protect mobile phones goes up. It’s a never-ending cycle. Here is my phone case market research to get started and put your mind at ease. How big is the smartphone industry? There are currently more cell phones than human beings on the planet. Companies are creating new cell phones every year. People are constantly changing and grabbing the latest smartphones in order to keep up-to-date with society. Nobody wants to feel left out. In 2016, it was reported that 2.1 billion people owned a smartphone. It is predicted that in 2020 2.8 billion people will have a smartphone. The smartphone industry, culture, and sales will never end as technology keeps developing and advancing. In 2016 companies made a total of 428.9 billion dollars in sales, globally, with smartphones alone.
BUSINESS OF MOBIE COVERS:- What about the phone case (accessories) business? With a growing population, more and more people are getting mobile phones. This means disposable income is increasing too. People are spending hundreds of pounds and dollars on accessories for their smartphone, one of those accessories being a protective phone case. You could put protective phone cases into 3 categories, described below. The affordable, generic cases ($1-9) i.e Rs. 80 to 700 The affordable case can be aimed at the mass market. Usually somebody not looking for anything special, unique but just wants a case onto the back of a phone so it can be protected. No thrills and surprises here. These cell phone accessories are mass produced and extremely inexpensive to purchase. The competition for these accessories is very wild and intense. It is possible to sell these phone cases and make a profit, however, we must sell lots of them consistently to see any decent returns. Cases with a little more oomph! (Phone Cases from $10-39) i.e Rs 700 to 3000 When I say “oomph!”, I’m talking about phone cases which comes in special or branded quality packaging. They may also offer more with the case, such as a branded cable, warranty or tempered glass screen protector. These cases are usually priced higher. They don’t have to be unique but certainly does have to have quality and brand reassurance. Customer service is the key feature of these cases.
Growing Demand of Mobile Covers:- Smartphones have changed the way people live their lives. Right from making calls to accessing internet and watching videos, smartphones are capable of performing numerous functions. People use smartphones to click pictures, use social networking sites and replying to official mails. The power and features of smartphones make them highly useful for people of all age groups. These marvelous gadgets have become an integral part of people’s lives, so much that any damage to the smartphone can bring its user’s life to a complete standstill. Apart from leading to loss of official and personal data, any physical damage to a smartphone can also result in financial loss. Many of the smartphones available in the market today are quite expensive. For this reason, protecting the smartphone from any type of physical damage is of great importance. This is where mobile phone cases may prove to be very useful. The Role of Mobile Phone Cases :- The primary purpose of mobile phone cases is to prevent smartphones from getting damaged. A good-quality cover can actually be very effective when it comes to protecting the phone in case of a fall. Moreover, it can help avoid scratches, stains and spots. Due to this reason, it is considered important to use a smartphone cover, especially with an expensive smartphone. However, the role of mobile phone cases is not just limited to preventing the phone from getting physically damaged. These are also used to enhance the appearance of these sophisticated devices. Mobile phones cases come in a wide range of colors and designs that can make your phone look visually-appealing. In fact, for most people, appearance is the most important factor that determines the choice of a smartphone cover. Customized Mobile Phone Cases :- In recent years, the demand for customized smartphone cases has increased significantly. These covers are truly unique and different from other smartphone covers. While some cases have witty quotes printed on them, others are inspired from movies or sports. Buyers can easily personalize these covers to suit their tastes and personality. Customized smartphone covers have gained popularity as they can make a smartphone stand out from all the rest.
Product Insights By product, the body glove segment held the largest market share in 2018. Introduction of sleek designs, coupled with use of advanced materials such as silicon, rubber, and thermoplastic polyurethane to deliver 360° protection, is expected to expand the application scope of the segment. Manufacturers have been introducing multi-layered protective mobile covers that provide maximum protection. For instance, Pelican Products, Inc.’s high-performance cases for Samsung Galaxy Note9 introduced in August 2018 boasts of providing the ultimate protection for the smartphone. Made from highly durable materials, the Voyager cover variant, for instance, offers four-layered protection against cracks and other damage. The company claims to have tested its products as per military specifications and can survive multiple drops. New designs and innovative functions are also making an appearance in the market for mobile phone protective covers. A recent collaboration between OtterBox and PopSockets brought smartphone users a new way of expressing themselves through their phone cases. Available in a wide range of colors and graphics, the Otter+Pop Symmetry and Defender Series introduces an OtterBox phone case with a built-in PopGrip. Conventional plastic materials such as polycarbonate are widely used to manufacture hard protective covers. These provide the least amount of protection to the phone and are more susceptible to cracks and damage when dropped. Hybrid mobile phone covers are better designed to absorb the impact of a fall, compared to cases made from conventional materials as they have a soft inner layer for better shock absorption. Owing to these benefits, the hybrid protective cases segment is anticipated to expand at the highest CAGR of 9.4% over the forecast period.
Distribution Channel Insights Based on distribution channel, the offline segment held a leading share of 71.0% in the mobile phone protective cover market in 2018. Most consumers still prefer buying products at physical stores rather than online portals as in-store allows the choice of physical verification of the products. It also eliminates the need to pay shipping charges and allows the possibility of consulting sales representatives for further details. Rising number of retail stores, especially in emerging markets such as India, China, and Brazil, is expected to increase availability of mobile phone accessories, including protective covers. In February 2018, OnePlus, India’s second largest premium smartphone manufacturer, announced its plans to set up authorized brand stores in eight leading cities in the country. The company is also looking to increase its presence in Tata-owned Croma electronics stores as part of the expansion plan. The online segment is anticipated to expand at the highest CAGR of 8.4% from 2019 to 2025 fueled by growing penetration of mobile phones and high-speed internet. Introduction of innovative delivery options by vendors, such as same day delivery, coupled with growing penetration of e-commerce vendors in tier II and tier III cities, is expected to have a positive impact on the growth of the market. The global market is highly fragmented, wherein an increasing number of companies have been operating without the presence of a physical, brick-and-mortar store. Increasing number of dedicated online retailers, such as Amazon, Alibaba, and eBay, is expected to assist market growth. In addition, most vendors, including Otter Product, CG Mobile, and Incipio, LLC, have their online portals where consumers can order products as per their requirements.
CONCLUSION:- With smartphones becoming an essential part of one’s daily life, an increasing number of features are now being incorporated into the mobile phones itself - music, television, shopping, games, etc. This has driven the sales of mobile phones in recent years. For instance, according to a joint study by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) and PwC, the number of smartphone users in India is expected to reach 859 million by 2022, rising from 468 million users in 2017. Surge in sales of mobile phones has a direct positive impact on the demand for various accessories, including protective covers. Increasing competition among players and decreasing prices of smartphones have also widened the customer base. Moreover, a booming e-commerce sector has played a crucial role in providing cheaper and varied mobile accessories, including protective covers, with a plethora of features, designs, and graphics. Capitalizing on soaring smartphone markets across emerging economies, players have been setting up online portals that offer various mobile phone accessories at the click of a button.
