TOPIC NAME USE OF PLASTIC WASTE IN ROAD CONTRUCTION Under the Guidance Mr. Sumit Kale Sir BY Sandhya Deokate Sunil Shende Sandeep Pore
Content Introduction Objective Road construction material Advantages Construction Case study Conclusion References
Introduction As the world population grows,so do the amount and type of waste being generated. Many of the waste produced will remain in environment. It is try to match society need for safe and economic disposal of waste material with highway industry need for better and more cost effective construction material.
Objective To coat the aggregates with the waste plastic materials. To check the properties of bituminous mix specimen. To check the properties of bituminous mix specimen due to coating of waste plastic materials. To reduce the disposal problem of plastics .
Road construction material Highway construction project utilize those natural rock material: aggregate, crushed rocks, broken stone and gravel. All of this material can be fully or partially replaced with recycled materials. Surface - concrete mix made of cement and aggregate Base -course unbound or bound materials Subbase – aggregate, unbound materials Subgrade_ ashalt , lime, Portland cement or other modifier
Follwing types of waste materials used in road construction. Pawing waste materials Industrial ash material Plastic waste material
Advantages These materials cheaply available. Multi-layer films can be used which provide strength and durability. No maintenance will be required for years as the surface remains without any cracking or potholes. Domestic and industrial waste products provide a prospective source of alternative materials.

Plastic Waste Collection
Segragation:plastic waste collected from various sources
Plastices waste ( bags, cups , bottles etc )cut into a size between 2.36mm and 4.75mm using Shredding machine.
Layer of mixtures
Case study Plastic roads first developed by Rajagopalan Vasudevan in 2001, consist of an asphalt mix with plastic waste incorporated into the asphalt mixture. The implementation of plastics in roads also opens a new option for recycling post- consumer plastics. . Australia, Indonesia, India, the United Kingdom, the United States, and many other countries have used technology which can incorporate plastic waste into an asphalt mix.In the Netherlands in the cities of Zwolle andGiethoorn there are two bicycle paths installed made purely from waste plastics
In collaboration with RV.College of Engineering and the Bangalore City Corporation. Ahmed Khan proved that blends of Polyblend and bitumen, when used to lay roads, enhanced the bitumen's water repellant properties, and helped to increase road life by a factor of three.
Conclusion This study will have a positive impact on the environment as it will reduce the volume of plastic waste to be disposed of by incineration and land filling. It will not only add value to plastic waste but will develop a technology, which is eco-friendly But also increased the road life as well as will help to improve the environment and also creating a source of income. .
