Slide Content
Process of writing down specific topics from different sources
A group or individual creative technique by which efforts are made to find a conclusion for a specific problem by gathering a list of ideas spontaneously contributed by its members. ALEX FAICKNEY OSBORN (1953)
Strategies in doing Brainstorming
Simply involves listing down ideas about a particular topic.
TOPIC IDEAS
Visual representation of ideas and their connections with one another; also called web clustering .
An idea is examined from six (6) distinct viewpoints .
You describe the topic (What is it?) Compare and contrast it (What is it like or how is it different?) What do you associate it with something (What does it remind you of?) Analyze it (What are its parts?) Apply it (In what ways can it be utilized?) Argue for or against it (In what ways can you support or oppose it?) or you can simply imagine the cube but with a significant word that you may easily remember the cubing.
Describe it Describe the discovery of America by Columbus. Describe the conquest and colonization of the Aztec Empire by Costes and the Inca Empire Pizarro. Use images and/or maps. Associate it Regarding the map given, associate it to the discoveries made by Portugal, England and France (years, main conquers, places, etc.). Use images and/or maps and create a timeline. Compare it Compare the Spanish conquests and colonization to the ones made by Portugal, England and France. What similarities can you find? What differences. Analyze it What consequences had the colonization of America? (Politic, demographic, economic, and social consequences) Apply it Is it okay to apply the concept “discovery”? Argue for or against it Take a stand about these discoveries. Substantiate your position with reasons, facts or opinions.
Writing what comes into your mind; continuous writing without inhibitions and not minding errors in spelling and grammar.
Going to the library or checking out websites on the internet, then making a list of map of new ideas.
ADVANTAGES OF BRAINSTORMING It encourages creative thinking. All ideas are accepted. It makes everyone part of the team. It is exciting and easy.
DISADVANTAGES OF BRAINSTORMING It only works when everyone in the room has something to say. Without strict control or leader present, the group may take a long time to get a solution. It will not be effective in a group with a large members. People with high emotions are not allowed.
Visual representation of concepts that help us structure information into organizational patterns.
Present essential information and connect this pieces of information into a coherent framework. Help others focus on the relationships or connections of ideas presented with other details.
KINDS OF GRAPHIC ORGANIZERS
Used to compare ideas and events and show similar and different attributes using two or more overlapping circles.
BEN DIAGRAM A B
Great Dane Poodle
Used to represent hierarchy, classification , and branching or showing relationships of scientific categories, family trees, and even lineages.
Used to investigate and enumerate various aspects of a central idea, which could be a concept, topic, or theme; also known as semantic map .
Displays the nature of the problem and how it can be solved.
Used to show how events occurred chronologically through a long bar labeled with dates and specific events.
LINEAR TIMELINE COMPARATIVE TIMELINE Shows how events happened within one period Shows two sets of events that happened within the same period
Used to map events in the story and/or analyze major parts of a plot.
Used to show the logical sequence of events.
Used to better understand causal relationship of a complex phenomenon by showing factors that cause a specific event or problem, as well as details of each cause.
Describes how a series of events interact to produce a set of results repeatedly .
Used to map out argument and evidence that prove a viewpoint; especially useful when processing persuasive or argumentative texts.
BENEFITS OF GRAPHIC ORGANIZERS Helps visualize or present information in a way that is easier to comprehend. Provides the opportunity to actively contribute and participate in the learning process. Develop cognitive skills such as brainstorming, critical and creative thinking, categorizing and prioritizing content, reflection, etc.
BENEFITS OF GRAPHIC ORGANIZERS Helps recall prior knowledge about a subject and quickly connects it to new information. Promotes self-learning and students can familiarize themselves with a lesson far more easily.
Planning for writing or creating a summary that gives the essential features of a text.
Shows how the parts of a text are related to one another as part that are of equal importance, or sections that are subordinate to a main idea. OUTLINE “blueprint”
ALPHANUMERIC Uses both letters and numbers as labels Uses only numbers as labels. DECIMAL OUTLINE FORMATS
ALPHANUMERIC DECIMAL
2 General Types of Outlining TOPIC OUTLINE SENTENCE OUTLINE Uses words or phrases as headers Done by using sentences ; also known as expanded outline
ACTIVITY #1 Give your ideas or thought on the different problems that our country is facing today. Organize your ideas using: Brainstorming Graphic Organizers Outline
