University Programming Board - Prepping for Mr. Georgia Southern
STATESBORO, Ga., Feb. 19, 2025 - The University Programming Board (UPB) is recognized
for hosting both the Miss Georgia Southern and Mr. Georgia Southern Scholarship Competition
each year. This year marks the 18th annual competition Mr. Georgia Southern Scholarship. The
scholarship includes $1,500 along with a plaque and sponsorship items. The competition will be
held Thursday, April 3, 2025, in the Russell Union Ballroom.
UPB makes arrangements for Mr. Georgia Southern at least four months in advance. The
vice president of special events, Courtney Evans, is in charge of this event. Multiple
informational sessions are held in mid-February for interested students. The sessions are hosted
by Evans with the intention of teaching candidates what to expect during the pageant. Evans,
alongside the UPB executive board, is recruiting candidates for the pageant. No more than 18
candidates are allowed to participate.
“I am getting sponsors together, finding judges, and making sure I have a space to have
the competition,” said Evans. “Once the applications close, I go through to make sure all the
applicants meet the criteria. Then, we start the actual competition process.” Rehearsals begin
mid-March. UPB members are securing potential sponsors by reaching out to local businesses and
restaurants through calls and emails. UPB directors are reaching out to faculty members and
community figures to secure judges. The panel will include four judges.
