2023–24 Testing Updates

Test Settings API Current methods (one-by-one and batch files in TOMS) continue to work. Certain student information systems (SIS) and Special Education systems can automatically sync to TOMS. Contact vendors about availability More information coming soon

Redesigned SSRs Newly redesigned Student Score Reports (SSRs) are available for the 2023–24 summative assessments. Redesigned SSRs for the Initial ELPAC will be available for the 2024–25 test administration. SSRs will be available as PDFs and HTML pages. SSRs will also be available in Arabic.

New Personalized Video SSRs Two video SSRs will be available to purchase. CAASPP Smarter Balanced for ELA and mathematics​ Summative ELPAC Same cost as in previous years—$1 per video​ Includes both English and Spanish for students whose primary language is Spanish​ Costs $1 for the Smarter Balanced for ELA and mathematics video and $1 for the Summative ELPAC video

Teacher Hand Scoring System Updates New features include the following: Improved navigation Ability to add comments for other scorers on student responses Email notifications to scorers The Teacher Hand Scoring System (THSS) is used to score student responses for the following: Initial ELPAC (Writing domain for grades three through twelve) Smarter Balanced Interim Assessments for ELA and mathematics CAST Interim Assessments ELPAC Interim Assessments

Quick Reference Documents

Security Considerations Interim assessment materials are not for public use, display, or distribution. These materials should not be shared with parents/guardians or the public; reproduced in any form; or posted in any public place, including online.

Roles to Administer Interim Assessments LEA coordinators and test site coordinators, test administrators, and test examiners can administer all interim assessments. The IA Administrator Only role can be assigned for access to all interim assessments but no summative assessments.

CAST Interim Assessments Organization Elementary organized by grade level performance expectations: Grade three Grade four Grade five Middle school and high school organized by science domain: Earth and Space Sciences Life Sciences Physical Sciences

CAST Interim Assessments in CERS Information and data are available in CERS. Available now: Student scores and achievement levels Late January 2024: Items and student responses Late July 2024: Individual student reports Educators will need to be given access to view results.

CAST Interim Assessment Use The CAST Interim Assessments are fixed-form assessments. Evidence of student learning elicited from assessments will differ depending upon the items administered and the administration method. The evidence will help to inform instructional practices. California  Education Code  Section 60642.7 prohibits the use of interim assessments for any ​high-stakes purposes.

CAST Items Requiring Hand Scoring CAST Interim Assessments each include one PT. Each PT contains one constructed-response item that requires hand scoring. Scale score ranges for the CAST Interim Assessments are based on those from the summative CAST. Performance levels are also provided.

TOMS

TOMS Updates TOMS has an updated user interface. Primary LEA coordinators can designate additional LEA coordinators. The IA Administrator Only role gives access to both CAASPP and ELPAC interim assessments. In the [ Test Settings ] tab of the Student Profile, tables now include the date the student’s test settings were last updated, the user who updated the settings, and the source of the last update.

Pinning Feature

Confirming Test Settings Remind test administrators and test examiners to check settings before approving.

Security Agreements and Affidavits TOMS users will not have access to administer summative tests if the security form has not been signed. Test site coordinators sign affidavits and agreements. Test administrators and test examiners sign affidavits. Signatures take about 60 minutes to process. Security forms are separate from Moodle course agreements. Non-TOMS users sign locally.
