Body Check Ritual Exercise When you start to become aware of yourself slipping into the ‘Red’. Do something physical – e.g. holding the wrist, brushing hands, stamping foot. The action will be largely dependent on the context and situation you’re operating in. Place your attention on something external. Notice its shape, texture. Notice the space around it. Choose the next task. © Gazing Limited 2022 17

When you start to become aware of yourself slipping into the ‘Red’. Place your tongue on the bottom of your mouth. Feel the ground under your feet. Feel your stomach move in and out as you breath. Count your breaths. Hold the first two fingers of your left hand (optional). Grounding Exercise © Gazing Limited 2022 18

Everyone is vulnerable Accept the discomfort Deliberately Choose © Gazing Limited 2022 20

‘Blue head’ is about deliberate focus of attention: clear focus on clear tasks. Most pressure is predictable. Preparing for how the pressure will feel allows you to free up your focus: zoom out to zoom in. Embracing the pressure © Gazing Limited 2022 21

A great example of performance under pressure © Gazing Limited 2022 22

Lucky Landing? Denial “This cant be happening” Disbelief “This doesn’t happen to ME” Acceptance “This flight probably will not end on a runway with the aircraft undamaged” © Gazing Limited 2022 23

Challenge: Practice ‘Attention Exercises’ Body check rituals Grounding Actions to start using Red2Blue 27 First step: Use the Map Put it up somewhere you can see it Observe others, reflect Am I red or am I blue? Second step: Use the tools Control Circles Red2Blue Recognition © Gazing Limited 2022

Consider the last time you were in the Red What triggered it? How did you respond? How did your response impact your performance? What could you do next time to avoid you responding like that? Self reflection © Gazing Limited 2022 28 Recognise – Accept – Choose
