PRISM (PAULINIAN ROOTS, IDENTITY, SPIRITUALITY AND MISSION) PAULINIAN FORMATION PROGRAM
PAULINIAN FORMATION (Who is a Paulinian ?) Paulinian Formation is the total dedication to the overall formation of the whole person, both human and spiritual dimensions.//
THE PROCESS OF FORMATION OF THE WHOLE PERSON Formation of the whole person refers to the process of transforming the inner and outer self in such a way that they become like the inner and outer being of Christ Himself, / a developmental process that takes place, as our Patron St. Paul states: //“…until Christ be formed in you. (Galatians 4:19).//
THIS PROCESS OF IMITATING JESUS CHRIST OUR MODEL / - - IS TO BECOME WHOLE,/ TO BE TRULY HUMAN,/ TO GLORIFY GOD. // St. Paul underscores that wholeness is a divine quality. “God is not a God of disorder but of wholeness.” (I Corinthians 14:33)//
Fullness of life produces a person transformed or as St. Paul puts it - “complete in Christ ( Colossians 2:10).
The transformed person then contributes to the TRANSFORMATION OF THE WORLD – what Scripture refers to as the “Kingdom of God” (Mt. 13:45) The growth of the person by intentional focus on one’s spiritual and interior life development will spill over the physical body and human speech and actions which have effect on entire the society.
This transformation was very evident in the lives of Fr. Louis Chauvet , our first Sisters, and St. Paul.
Formation of the whole person thus calls for helping each Paulinian Formator / student to know and understand and live the call of what it means to be TRULY HUMAN – to be “DISCIPLE” and “AMBASSADOR” for Christ, a “MISSIONARY” after the heart of Christ . Thus it is a FORMATION FOR DISCIPLESHIP, EXCELLENCE AND MISSION.”
PAULINIAN FORMATION PROGRAM AND THE 5 CORE VALUES The “holistic formation for discipleship, excellence and mission” is summarized in the 5 Core Values of Paulinian Education.
“ A PAULINIAN is a CHRIST-CENTERED PERSON, who is impelled by the LOVE OF CHRIST (CHARITY), uses one’s gifts (CHARISM), for the SERVICE OF THE CHURCH and SOCIETY (COMMUNITY), unto where one is sent for a mission (COMMISSION).” ( Paulinian Identity)
Christ is the center of a Paulinian’s life. // Like Christ in the Eucharist,/ a Paulinian’s life is bread that is taken, blessed, broken and given for others. // By walking in Christ, the Truth and rising with Him above all one’s pains and tribulation, a Paulinian shares in His Paschal Mystery.// Thus, a Paulinian is called to a LIFE OF DISCIPLESHIP through the core value: CHRIST-CENTEREDNESS.// (PRAYERFULNESS)
A Paulinian continually develops one’s talents for the service of the community: / striving for excellence by one’s serious effort to grow and improve in one’s knowledge and skills; / and pursuing a life of holiness by always seeking the better and finer things , and the Final Good.// Thus, a Paulinian is called to a LIFE OF EXCELLENCE through the core value: CHARISM.//( ALL TO ALL)
A Paulinian has a mission and life purpose to spread the Good News,/ actively work to “save” this world and to make it a better place –/ to be the salt of the earth and light of the world.// Thus, a Paulinian is called to a LIFE OF SERVANT LEADERSHIP this core value: COMMISSION. //(TRANQUIL DARING)
A Paulinian is an exemplar of joyful and healthy human relationships,/ who leads and lives with fellow workers in Christ , in unity , partnership, cooperation and collaboration.// Thus, a Paulinian is called to a LIFE OF MUTUAL RELATIONSHIP through this core value: COMMUNITY.// (PAULINIAN GLEANER)
Impelled by the love of Christ, a Paulinian brings love of God to all by being warm, loving, hospitable, caring for people and for the world; using resources carefully and responsibly. // A Paulinian is a conscientious family member and citizen, concern with the promotion of human integrity, justice, peace, care for the environment.// Thus, a Paulinian is called to a LIFE of COMPASSIONATE STEWARDSHIP through this core value: CHARITY.// (SELF-EFFACING)
ATTRIBUTES OF A PAULINIAN A Paulinian is a DISCIPLE OF CHRIST, who strives for EXCELLENCE AND HOLINESS from which will flow a LIFE OF SERVANT LEADERSHIP, MUTUAL RELATIONSHIP and COMPASSIONATE STEWARDSHIP, in order to uplift the human and spiritual condition of the students, for the good of the Church and society.
As a disciple of Jesus Christ after the heart of Mary, St. Paul and Fr. Louis Chauvet , the Paulinian , strives for an ever deeper relationship with Him evident in a life that is Eucharistic / and a community nourished by one’s participation in the sacraments and personal prayer.// Walking in Christ, the touchstone of the educational approach, one strives for what is essential ; overcoming setbacks and difficulties through God’s grace.//
As a model of excellence, a Paulinian’s life must be integrated . // Faithful to the guidance of the Church and informed of the Catholic view of education, one lives a holy life pleasing to God in one’s capacity to aim for wholesome , quality, order and creativity; / equipping oneself with suitable professional qualifications and pedagogical skills and strategies needed for the total formation and education of students in our contemporary world.//
As a servant leader, a Paulinian must manifest zeal for the Gospel through a life that is rooted in the Word of God manifested in one’s disposability , TRANQUIL DARING, competence and productivity, a life that is influenced by a Christian commitment to work, duties and responsibilities , possessing professionalism in carrying out the mission of the school.//
As a community builder, a Paulinian embodies , the value of collaboration, respect for one’s giftedness and capabilities , affirms the best of others , joyfully works with them for the common good, does good and does no harm to one’s fellow and to the institution and community where one belongs. //
A compassionate steward, a Paulinian is “ALL TO ALL,” developing a world view, overcoming ones prejudices and biases ; /showing reverence to other faiths and cultures; exemplifying kindness, warmth, empathy and generosity, especially to the poor and suffering;/ espousing initiatives and supporting programs on Paulinian Advocacies ; /and managing resources in a spirit of Christian stewardship and good governance.//
Who is the Paulinian ?
Last July 1-3, 2022 Christian Formation officers nationwide with other invited Paulinian Representatives, had a PRISM Workshop on the Best Paulinian Terms that would best describe the Paulinian traits of our SPC sisters as recorded in our history. These traits would make us different from other Congregations. The same PRISM Workshop was given again last July 18, 2022 online. Many of those who were not able to attend last July 1-3, were present. Fifty seven of our Basic Education teachers participated.
During the College Department Orientation all the members of the administration, faculty and the whole student body were present. The VP for Christian Formation Services presented the Paulinian Formation Program underscoring the Paulinian Roots, Identity, Spirituality and Mission. She shared the use of terms used that makes the Paulinian unique and different from other Congregations and institutions. Yung “ Tatak Paulinian ” talaga .
