Profile Projector A profile projector is an optical instrument that can be used for measuring . The projector magnifies the profile of the specimen, and displays this on the built-in projection screen .
History of Profile Projector The idea of using profile projector, which is created by James Hartness and Russell W. Porter, came from mixing optics and measurement in a device.
Principle of working: The main principle of operation is a specimen is placed on the glass stage. The stage is then illuminated from below and the resulting image is picked up by the microscope objectives and projected to a large built -in projection screen. Since the specimen has under lighting, the fine microscopic details are eliminated and only the details of the contour and profile are seen. A drawing can be affixed to the profile projector's large viewing screen and the contour can be easily traced or compared to other profiles and contours on other drawings.

Procedures Switch on the optical profile projector. Place the clean work piece on the glass of the table. Focus it properly by moving focusing wheel and moving the work table to obtain correct magnified image of the object. Horizontal (x axis) measurement can be taken by right hand side micrometer and the vertical measurement can be taken from front side micrometer.
Types : There are three type of profile projector available in the market which are Bench type Vertical type Horizontal type You can get profile projector at Sinowon Innovation Metrology Manufacture Limited.
Usage Profile projector is widely used for complex shape stamping gears , cams, threads and comparing the measured contour model. It’s easy to use and highly efficient. It is a commonly used measurement of stampings, components . Different industries use different type of components. The projector helps in measuring the dimensions with great accuracy. Components that cannot be measured using conventional techniques are measured by profile projector. Irregular shapes can be precisely measured with this instrument . It is also used for inspecting minute flaws in glassware.
Advantages Cost savings Time savings They’re able to measure in 2-D space. Measuring Length and Width. Points in Space Measurement Dimensioning Measurement Angles
Disadvantage The limitation of using profile projector as a fixed device forms a disadvantage of it, while instruments such micrometer or calipers can be used to reach for measuring far and joint accessible components and it is large and bulky and usually require a cart to transport from place to place, also the device requires power for operation.
