Driver Drowsiness Detection System

Under the guidance of Mr. Rajkumar Baghel Presented By Assistant Professor Hrushabh Chheda (2000501019) School of Automobile (SSPU) Avikalp Jangir (2000501023) Sahil Raj (2000501024) Symbiosis Skills and Professional University Village – Kiwale Adjoining Pune Mumbai Expressway Pune - 412101 A Project On Driver Drowsiness Detection System Department of Automobile Engineering

Outline of presentation Introduction DATA Requirement Working Benefits Conclusion

Introduction For any vehicle accidents driver’s faults are the most accountable aspect to cause dangerous problem to the society. Many drivers cannot control the vehicles due to different reasons it may cause severe accidents and sometime death. For vehicle accidents various factors involved such as drunk driving, over speeding, many distractions like texting while driving, talking with others, playing with children etc. one of the important factors is sleeping on the wheel. People know the dangerous of alcohol consumption and run the vehicles, but they do not understand the seriousness of fatigue driving. These glasses alert the driver whenever he is getting into sleep while driving the vehicle. since sleeping on wheels is dangerous sometimes it may convert into fettle accidents can leads to death. So, to prevent such consequences of accident we can use this gadget to alert the driver when he feels drowsiness. It also automatically stops the vehicle if the driver doesn’t open eyes for a short period of time.

Data and Research India recorded 4,61,312 road accidents, resulting in 1,68,491 fatalities and 4,43,366 injuries. National Highways saw the highest number of accidents and fatalities, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh high accident numbers and fatalities Major causes H uman error, with over speeding being the leading factor. Y oung adults aged 18-45, with two-wheelers being the most affected vehicle category. Facts

i . TOTAL NUMBER OF ACCIDENTS, FATALITIES AND PERSON INJURED DURING 2018 TO 2022

ii. PERCENTAGE WISE SHARE OF DROWSINESS DATA

iii. Road Accidents and Road Accident deaths on different categories of National Highways by Traffic rule violations during 2022

Requirement

Requirement Hardware Components 2. IR Sensor An infrared sensor is an electronic device, that emits to sense some aspects of the surroundings. An IR sensor can measure the heat of an object as well as detects the motion. These types of sensors measure only infrared radiation, rather than emitting it that is called a passive IR sensor. 1. Arduino Nano "The Arduino Nano is a small, complete, and breadboard- friendly board based on the ATmega328P released in 2008. It offers the same connectivity and specs of the Arduino Uno board in a smaller form factor.

Requirement Hardware Components 4. Vibration Sensor The vibration sensor buffers a piezoelectric transducer. The transducer generates the voltages, when the transducer moved from neutral axis, distortion makes strain within the piezoelectric element. 3. Buzzer A buzzer or beeper is an audio signaling device, which may be mechanical, electromechanical, or piezoelectric (piezo for short). Typical uses of buzzers and beepers include alarm devices, timers, and confirmation of user input such as a mouse click or keystroke.

Requirement Hardware Components 5. Relay Module A relay is an electrically operated switch. Many relays use an electromagnet to mechanically operate a switch. A relay is an electrically operated device. 6. DC Gear Motor A machine that converts DC power into mechanical power is known as a DC motor. Its operation is based on the principle that when a current carrying conductor is placed in a magnetic field, the conductor experiences a mechanical force.

Requirement Hardware Components 7. Battery The nine- volt battery, or battery, is a common size of battery that was introduced for the early transistor radios. It has a rectangular prism shape with rounded edges and a polarized snap connector at the top. This type is commonly used in walkie- talkies, clocks and smoke detectors. 8. Battery Cap The battery has both terminals in a snap connector on one end. The smaller circular (male) terminal is positive, and the larger hexagonal or octagonal (female) terminal is the negative contact. The connectors on the battery are the same as on the load device; the smaller one connects to the larger one and vice versa.

Working Principle The main principle of this project is given below as :- Brain and visual activity are used in drowsiness detection system. Electroencephalographic (EEG) channel is used to monitor the brain activity. Diagnostic techniques and fuzzy logic are used in EEG- based drowsiness detector. Using blinking detection and characterization for visual activity monitored. Electrooculographic (EOG) channel are used to extract the Blinking features.

Working Accidents due to drowsiness can be controlled and prevented with the help of eye blink sensor using IR rays. It consists of IR transmitter and an IR receiver. The transmitter transmits IR rays into the eye. If the eye is shut, then the output is high. If the eye is open, then the output is low. This output is interfaced with an alarm inside and outside the vehicle. This module can be connected to the braking system of the vehicle and can be used to reduce the speed of the vehicle. The alarm inside the vehicle will go on for a period of time until the driver is back to his senses. If the driver is unable to take control of the vehicle after that stipulated amount of time, then the alarm outside the vehicle will go on to warn and tell others to help the driver and the vehicle will automatically stop.

Benefits Intelligent and Safe Transportation Accidents due to drowsiness can be avoided. Drunken driving also prevented by using alcohol detector. Safe parking with no damage or distraction to nearer vehicles.

Real world implementation

Conclusion The purpose of such a model is to advance a system to detect fatigue symptoms in drivers and control the speed of vehicle to avoid accidents. Advanced technology offers some hope avoid these up to some extent. This project involves measure and controls eye blink using IR sensor. We can automatically park the vehicle by first using Automatic braking system, which will slow down the vehicle and simultaneously will turn on the parking lights of the vehicle and will detect the parking space and will automatically park the vehicle preventing from accident. The proposed system helpful to avoid vehicle accidents because of driver’s sleepiness using eye blink sensor, in this project we study and design the system for driver fatigue detection. If the driver becomes drowsy the eye blink sensor’s frame vibrates attached to the vehicle. Even if the driver doesn’t wake up this system will stop the vehicle to ensure safety.
