About PER can be defined as the weight gain of test group/protein consumed by the test group. Advantages- the only equipment needed are rat cages, food jars, water bottles, and a balance. Disadvantages - Because the test can be conducted only with growing animals, it cannot be used to determine the protein requirement for maintenance , but only the combined requirement for growth and maintenance.
