About PER can be defined as the weight gain of test group/protein consumed by the test group. Advantages- the only equipment needed are rat cages, food jars, water bottles, and a balance. Disadvantages - Because the test can be conducted only with growing animals, it cannot be used to determine the protein requirement for maintenance , but only the combined requirement for growth and maintenance. PER cannot distinguish between weight gained as fat and as lean body mass CONSIDERATION FOR PER * Animal Used - Rats * Rats Weaned for 21 days of age * Protein Used - Concentration 10% of dry weight of diet. * PER of test protein - compared with ovalbumin. * Weight gained & food consumed - Recorded for 3 week feeding trail. @foodtechnologist_corner CHINMAI R DASTIKOP
