PSYCHOLOGICAL TEST

Psychological has long tradition of scientific research on human behavior and personality Through this research a multitude of psychological assessment scale have been developed to objectively and precisely measure various aspects of psychological functioning and personality characteristics

Psychological assessment Psychological assessment refer to the type of test that we use to help identify strength and areas for growth that affect one’s emotional, personal and professional development or adjustment

Psychological test Psychological test are standard measure devised to assess behavior objectively and used by psychologist to help people make decision about their lives and understand more about themselves

USES OF PSYCHOLOGICAL TEST It is easier to get information from test than clinical interviews It help to assist in diagnosis They are assisting in the formulation of psychopathology and identification of areas of stress and conflict They help to determine the nature of difficult present [ how affecting my daily life]

It help for treatment These test are also used in forensic evaluation or criminal charge These test assess level of functioning or disability, help direct treatment and assess treatment outcome

INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP TEST

INDIVIDUAL TEST- individual test are designed to be administered to one person at a time GROUP TEST – are designed to administered the large number of people at the same time

SPEED AND POWER TEST

SPEED TEST – speed test have a fixed time limit at which point everyone taking the test must stop POWER TEST – power test have no time limit applicants are allowed as much time as needed to complete the test

COMPUTER ASSISTED TEST

It is a means of administering psychological test to large group of applicants in which an applicant’s response determine the level of difficulty of succeeding items

PEPER PENCIL AND PERFORMANCE TEST

These tests are in printed form, answer are recorded on a standard answer sheet Performance test assess- complex skills, such as ward processing or mechanical ability for which paper pencil test are not appropriate

Development of psychological test- how to make 1- analysis of the situation- in the first step detailed analysis of the psychological process required for successful performance of the task in question is carried out . 2 – tentative selection of the test item – in the second step after the analysis has been made the psychologist selects tests already available or device tests which he feel will measure the process

3 – development of standardized procedure – psychological test are administered and scored in the same way for every individual tested in order to obtain consistence result 4- administration of the test to a representative group – in this step the psychologist administers the test to a representative group of subject to see if they score the way expert judgement or other evidence suggests

In this way psychologist are able to determine the effectiveness of the test 5 – final selection of the test item – in this process many test item are either discarded or revised so that they contribute more directly to the overall purpose of the test

6- evaluation of the final test – effectiveness of the final test is evaluated in term of a specified criterion

Characteristic of psychological test

Principles of psychological Psychological test should have three components – standard, content [satisfied what we have or do] and the procedure that make it possible for anybody to administer it anywhere anytime Test should have norms to compare an individual test score to the score of know group who have taken the test

Test item are high technical quality prepared by experts pretested and selected Direction for administering score are precisely stated so that procedures are standard for different users of the test [one ans sheet should be there] A test manual and other accessory materials are provided as a guide for administration, scoring evaluating its quality and for interpreting and using the results

Interpretation of psychological test[making result] The integration of test finding into a comprehensive meaningful report is probably the most difficult aspect of psychological evaluation Most clinician follow some general outline in preparing a psychological report such as test behavior intellectual functioning personality functioning

Reality testing ability impulse- control, manifestation of depression and guilt interpersonal conflict Interred diagnosis, degree of present overt disturbance, prognosis for social recovery, motivation for personality change, primary asset and weakness, recommendation[what should be done in particular situation] and summary

Role of nurse in psychological assessment

Nurse should become familiar with many standardized psychological test that are available to enhance each stage of the nursing process This test will help in providing care A nurse should have knowledge about all the psychological test that will enable her to clarify the patients and relatives doubts regarding psychological test they have to undergo
