Intro to Chinese culture –originated from? Chinese tend to honor tradition, but they also embrace many parts of western popular culture. Chinese customs include a strong sense of family, a deep respect for hierarchy, and an appreciation for harmony over conflict. Chinese culture is one of the world's oldest cultures, originating thousands of years ago The culture prevails across a large geographical region in east Asia Chinese have traditionally believed that the Huaxia tribe originated Chinese culture. Ancient texts say that the Huaxia lived in the Central Plain near Beijing hundreds of years before the Shang Dynasty (1600–1046 BC) started and spread westwards and southwards along the Yellow River basin. Ancient Chinese Culture Was Defined by Sima Qian https://www.chinahighlights.com/travelguide/ancient-chinesese%20have%20traditionally%20believed%20that,along%20the%20Yellow%20River%20basin. Healthcare practices for the elderly in CHINA Chinese citizens can access universal health care through government supported or mandated health insurance plans. In China, as in most Asian countries Chinese elderly are expected to remain in their family homes and be cared for by their children or grandchildren. There's a stigma in China against placing aging parents or older family members in nursing homes Data shows:- 90% of elderly people spend time with their sons and grandsons. 7% of the elderly need community care. 3 % who have no one to take care they chose the nursing home.

HEALTH CARE, The dark side- Elderly and the decline of family size! In China nowadays family size is dramatically going down and with this decline in family size, the question arises Who will take care of the elderly? Who will pay for their health care? Because of this the percentage of the elderly now gradually increased in these sectors Community care/retirement home/long-term care Nursing home These organizations are private and government-funded

Philosophy on aging- China Most chinese people believe their family members like adult children and grandsons can provide better care and love than the outside world. They are against community care and nursing home care for elders. In 1960, the average life expectancy at birth in china was around 44 years. By 2023, it had increased to 77 years, life expectancy is growing every year as compared with other countries life expectancy china is in the 12th position Https://www.Macrotrends.Net/globalmetrics/countries/CHN/china/life-expectancy

Male/female interactions, thoughts on family and raising children In China, the family is understood through Confucian thought. Roles family members are defined; a husband/father is expected to exhibit dominance and kindness to his wife in return for obedience and love, offer guidance and protection to his children in return for respect and obedience The mother's role was to fulfil domestic duties and care for the children Multigenerational living arrangements have been the norm , with grandparents, parents, and children coexisting under one roof. https://culturalatlas.sbs.com.au/chinese-culture/chinese-culture-family

Practices associated around illness and death in Chinese culture Feng shui: the arrangement of space and items in the home or hospital room is important, especially for the sick and dying. It aims to promote harmony and balance to enhance health and well-being. Ancestor veneration: an important part of chinese culture, honoring ancestors involves rituals and offerings to ensure their well-being in the afterlife, often at family gravesites or ancestral halls. Filial piety: this Confucian value emphasizes respect and care for elders, including providing for them in sickness and ensuring proper arrangements for their passing. Funeral practice an burial customs TRADITIONAL CHINESE FUNERAL CUSTOMS

Practices associated around illness and death End-of-life care : families often play a significant role in caregiving for terminally ill relatives, sometimes at home, and decisions about medical treatment are often made with input from family elders. Funeral rituals : traditional chinese funerals involve several rituals, including washing and dressing the deceased, placing offerings such as food and money in the coffin, and burning incense to guide the spirit. Mourning practices : traditionally, mourning periods can last for 100 days, during which family members wear somber clothing and avoid celebrations. White or black are common mourning colors. Burial customs : burial is typically preferred over cremation, and the location and orientation of the grave are chosen carefully based on feng shui principles to ensure good fortune for the deceased's descendants.
