Objectives: Identify the different condition that we may have in our eyes, ears, skin, hair, and nails. Understand the importance of good hygiene and regular check-ups for these body parts. Demonstrate proper practices for maintaining the health of the eyes, ears, skin, hair, and nails.

An ophthalmologist is a medical doctor who diagnoses and treats diseases of the eyes. My healthy EYES

A. Refractive errors Disorders that may Affect your Eyes The sharpness of vision of a person is called visual acuity. When a person experiences a change in his/her visual acuity, s/he may have refractive errors. These errors are caused by an unusual shape of the eyeball.

1. Nearsightedness or Myopia Types of Refractive Errors It is a condition wherein a person sees near objects clearly and far objects blurred.

2. Farsightedness or Hyperopia Types of Refractive Errors It is a condition wherein a person sees far objects clearly and near objects blurred

3. Astigmatism Types of Refractive Errors Astigmatism is caused by the irregular shape of the cornea, the transparent covering of the eye it effects the ability of the person to see both near and far objects.

B. Xeropthalmia Disorders that may Affect your Eyes Xerophthalmia is a condition wherein a person experiences night blindness and dryness of the eyes. It is caused by lack of Vitamin A in the body.

C. Cross-eye or Strabismus Disorders that may Affect your Eyes Strabismus is also called cross-eye. It is a condition wherein both eyes turn toward the nose. When a person looks at a particular object, his/her eyes are not aligned.

D. Pink eye or Conjunctivitis Disorders that may Affect your Eyes It is a condition wherein the person experiences redness and discomfort in the eyes. There is also a yellowish discharge that may cause the eyelids to stick together.

An otolaryngologist is a medical doctor who diagnoses and treats disorders of the ears, nose, and throat. S/he is also called an ENT. My healthy EARS

A person who experiences any of the following should consult the doctor immediately to address the ear concern/s: pain in the inside or outside of one or both ears difficulty hearing people talking difficulty hearing sound from phone calls or other electronic devices and appliances difficulty identifying the source and direction of a sound difficulty focusing on a specific sound from a noisy place

These are often symptoms of any of the following ear disorders. Hearing loss is a condition wherein a person loses the ability to hear sounds clearly. It ranges from mild to profound or total deafness. A. Hearing loss

These are often symptoms of any of the following ear disorders. Cerumen is also called earwax. It is normally produced by the body to protect the ears. When you eat and chew, the earwax moves toward the outer part of the ear. It dries up and turns into light-colored flakes. B. Earwax blockage or Impacted cerumen

These are often symptoms of any of the following ear disorders. Otitis externa is most commonly known as swimmer's ear. It is an infection in the outer part of the ear. When water enters the ear and not removed immediately, the ear becomes moist. C. Swimmer's ear or Otitis externa

These are often symptoms of any of the following ear disorders. Otitis media is an inflammation in the middle ear. D. Middle ear infection or Otitis media

I Keep a healthy eyes and ears

Keep your hands away from your eyes. Use protective shades for the eyes when going out on a sunny day. Do not rub your eyes when they are itchy. Wash them with clean water. Visit your eye doctor if you have eye problems. Do not read under dim light or in dark places. Do not use reading glasses when not prescribed by your eye doctor. Eyes

Use clean washcloth to clean your outer ear, NOT cotton buds. Dry your ear with a clean cloth after taking a bath or swimming Wear protective earplugs if going to a very noisy place. Do not insert anything in your ears. Avoid listening to loud music. Ears
