Writing Mixed Numbers a.) There is more than 1 whole pizza. 1 whole and 1 quarter = 1   There are 1 pizzas.  

Writing Mixed Numbers b.) There are 2 litters of water.  

Writing Mixed Numbers c.) 3 wholes and 2 fifths = 3  

Writing Mixed Numbers 1 , 2 and 3 are mixed numbers.  

Reading Mixed Numbers on a number line A represents 1   C represents 2   B represents 2

EXPRESSING IMPROPER FRACTIONS BY MIXED NUMBERS To convert an improper fraction to a mixed fraction, divide the denominator by the numerator .

Example: 17 4 17 4 4 - 16 1 = 4 1 4 The quotient becomes the whole number The remainder will be the numerator The divisor becomes the denominator
