BE-VERBS

What is be-verbs ? -It tells what the subject of a sentence is. -They do not express action. -The verbs must match the subject of the sentence.

AM IS ARE

BE-VERB MEANING/USE am -is used after the pronoun I and if the subject is singular. Examples: I am in grade 3. I am Princess.

BE-VERB MEANING/USE is -It is used with singular noun or pronoun subjects like he , she and it . Examples: Miss Rachel is my teacher. He is my brother.

BE-VERB MEANING/USE are -It is used with plural noun or pronoun subjects like you , we and they . Examples: They are preparing snacks. You are helping people.

AM IS ARE

Lets practice I (am, is) going to sleep now. She (am, is) happy about the result of medical test. I (am, is) so busy. It (are, is) not easy to dance. He (is, am) keeping the picture of his mother. You (are, am) the clown of our group.

Assignment Answer the Exercise 1 and 2 in page 119.

Using be – verbs was and were

Be verb Meaning/use was It is the past form of am and is . It is used with pronouns I , she , he and it with singular nouns. Examples: I was in the dentist yesterday. She was with our relatives. were It is the past form of are. It is used with the pronouns you , we , and they with plural nouns. Examples: They were happy living in the province. We were in the parking area.
