ABSTRACT There are various factors which cause deterioration of roads. The objective of our paper is to study the effects of rain during monsoon season in India. In India, there is a big problem of destruction of roads during monsoon season due to heavy raining. The roads investigated experienced severe failure like cracking, potholes, etc. there are impacts also on road transport system, accident is the major problem due to wet surface and widening of potholes. Here, objective of this paper is to study how the roads can be prevented from destruction and road users from accident due to raining. The study involved different reasons having impact on road transport and their mitigation measures during raining mainly in North West monsoon season in India. Rain causes significant drops in traffic speed and volume. Heavy rain can induce road waterlogging especially in the developing countries due to their poor drainage systems, which will exacerbate its effect on transportation systems. Various factors including expansive subgrade soil and use of inferior material are common causes of destruction and wet roads, widened cracks and potholes etc. Hence, rains lead to delays on high extent and impacting transport by road. Accidents due to rain, fog, sleet, wet pavement etc. come under the category of weather related accidents. Essential objective is to reduce the accidents caused due to rain. Broadly, the study includes identification of impacts caused by rain to transport system and their remedies .

Aim & Objectives AIM To study the effects of rains on roads (both Cement Concrete & Bitumen) thus to the transport system and to provide best possible solutions to reduce such effects and thereby accidents on roads saving lives of the people. OBJECTIVES To study the effects of rains on the Cement concrete and Bitumen roads. To study the impact of such effects on the transport system. To study the impact of those effects on the lives & Livelihood of the people. To provide best possible solution to reduce such effects for providing effective transport systems.

INTRODUCTION Road transport plays a significant role in the progress of social and economic development of country because 90 percent of Indian passengers travel by road and 65 percent of goods also transported by using road transportation. Now a days we are using roads for transportation as well as for communication. But these are effecting the roads and damaging them leading to traffic and road accidents etc. The damage of roads is also due to continuous rain fall and change in climatic conditions as well as leaking of chemicals on roads. Due Poor roads it is difficult to transport from one place to another place which leads to loss of time. Poorly maintained roadways cause accidents in a variety of ways, mostly due to the fact that they create an enormous hazard to drivers. In many instances, a driver may attempt to avoid a certain situation, like a pothole or pooling water which could cause a serious accident.

The ministry of road transport and highways disclosed that as many as 4,775 accidents occurred in 2019 due to potholes and 3,564 such accidents were reported in 2020.

LITERATURE REVIEW SI. No Authors Findings 1 Parshant Rana, Dr. R.R. Singh Studied effects of monsoon season or rainy season, the road pavement deteriorates due to various factors like poor drainage, low quality of pavement materialslet the rain water to penetrate through the pavement due to which various distresses like cracks, potholes, depressions, rutting, ravelling etc. 2 TIZA, MICHAEL TORYILA Studied effect of poor drainage condition on road is very adverse. It causes the failure of road in different ways. Proper drainage system provided to the road increases the life of roads. But the improper drainage system causes the failure of the road at its early edge. Therefore effective road drainage should be taking into consideration during construction of roads. 3 Agbonkhese Onoyan-usin , Yisa Godwin Lazhi , & Daudu Paul Itomi-ushi Studied effects of Poor drainage conditions on road pavement are of adverse effects and causes failures in different ways. Proper and well maintained drainage systems provided to road pavements will increase their life span but improper and not well maintained drainage systems causes’ failure of road pavements at its early age thereby drastically reducing their service lifespan.

CONT’D SI. No Authors Findings 4 Hend AliOmar, Nur Izzi Md.Yusoff,MuhammadMubaraki, HalilCeylan Studied effects of The loss of bitumen-aggregate bonding strength due to moisture damage in asphalt mixtures is investigated. General description of the theories and mechanisms related to moisture damage are discussed. Contributing factors to moisture damage and methods to improve the bond between bitumen and aggregates are presented. 5 G.D.Airey, A.C.Collop, S.E.Zoorob, R.C.Elliott Studied effects of Moisture damage in an asphalt mixture can be defined as the loss of strength, stiffness and durability due to the presence of moisture leading to adhesive failure at the binder–aggregate interface and/or cohesive failure within the binder or binder–filler mastic.  6 Gordon D. Airey — Young-Kyu Choi Studied effects of water damage test procedures on compacted mixtures measure the loss of strength and stiffness, both cohesive and adhesive, of an asphalt mixture due to moisture.

Summary of literature survey The study shows that there is impact of rainfall on subgrade strength of road, pavement, shoulders, drainage etc. which causes failure of road and road transport also influenced. The improper drainage system causes the failure of the road at its early edge. Therefore effective road drainage should be taking into consideration during construction of roads. The loss of bitumen-aggregate bonding strength due to moisture damage in asphalt mixtures is investigated. General description of the theories and mechanisms related to moisture damage are discussed. As water penetrates the asphalt, water enters the base material under the asphalt. This weakens the asphalt and reduce the load capacity of the underlayer. As traffic drives over the weakened area, the asphalt begins to crack and a potholes is formed. Asphalt is much more malleable than concrete, which gives it many advantages but makes it more susceptible to damage under extreme heat. Excessive heat can cause softening, sloughing, pitting, and might deform your asphalt under heavy loads.

METHODOLOGY Identification of problem Literature survey Identification of location Solution identification Field visit Analysis of problem

work progress Identified the locations of damaged roads where such problem exists. Visited the locations and identified different problems, we also done a survey regarding the damages of road, traffic and accidents .
