Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya Born : 23 rd March,1910 at Akbarpur,U.P Died on 12 October 1967 (aged 57),New Delhi. His mother died in 1912, when he was just 2 years old and later brought up by his father Hiralal who never married. He was a brilliant student as he stood first in matriculation exam in 1927,completed his Intermediate from BHU. He attended Fredrick William University, Berlin & was having National Economy as his doctoral subject and wrote his PhD thesis on the topic of Salt Taxation in India. He deeply studied and focussed on Gandhian Socio Economic Theory.

Ideas He questioned on upper class dominance and was born critic of Capitalism and Communism . Globalized thinking and dreamt about world citizenship & World Parliament. He was influenced by the German Philosophers like Karl Marx, Hegel and others and emphasized on Individual freedom. Solution to food problems during famine Example- Ghera Dalo Andolan , Deoriya , U.P

Against the imperialism and colonialism . He advocated that there should be World Development Authority which can provide aid to the under developed countries. He gave the concept of Four-Pillar State- Village, district, province and centre with the sovereign powers, each with independent powers.(Decentralization). He believes if democracy is organised on the principle of socialism , then Individual freedom with Economic Security both can be attained.

Dr. Lohia and Mahatma Gandhi Dr. Lohia appreciates and supported the Gandhi’s concept of nonviolence. But at the same, he criticised the Gandhiji for his concept of : Trusteeship Excessive reliance on nonviolence. Spinning wheel and Dr. Lohia emphasised on modern machinery. Firm belief in spiritualism and religion.

Dr Ambedkar & Dr. Lohia Dr. Ambedkar was 20 years senior to Dr. Lohia & Lohia didn’t emerge as a mass leader before 1950’s, so there was no interaction between them. But, after 1950’s,Dr.Lohia want to setup his own Socialist party and conceptualized the theory of Seven Revolutions- tackling discrimination and deprivation based upon caste, class, race, gender and nationality thus want to engage Dr. Ambedkar . He made interaction with Dr.Ambedkar with letters and proposed meeting never happened as Dr. Ambedkar passed on 6 th Dec,1956.
