RAW WATER TREATMENT SLUDGE REUSE Before using raw water, it should be pretreated to remove biological and suspended solids contaminants. removal process achieved in pretreatment units called clarifiers and filters . Using coagulants and coagulant aids ,Suspended solids are settled and collected in bottom of clarifiers as sludge ( nearly 1% solid concentration) . Sludge is concentrated in settling thickeners and decanters to around 30% solid concentration .

Annual amount of treated water = 55.5 billion m3/ year x 15 % = 8.3 billion m3 / year Average Nile water suspended solids 27 ppm Annual amount of settled sludge = 8.3 Billion m3/ y x 27 gm /m3 = 224,100 ton /year 100% solid = 224100 x 3.3 = 739,530 t / year 30% solid

A truck of sludge was submitted to the factory for future plant test . a pilot test for red bricks production is currently performed now in PHAROS university laboratory by project team . communication is running with cement production plant in Alexandria to study the possibility of using the sludge in cement industry .
