Reader Response Essay
Writing an essay on the topic "Reader Response Essay" can be a challenging task. It requires not
only a thorough understanding of the text being analyzed but also the ability to critically engage
with it from a personal perspective. This type of essay demands a delicate balance between
objective analysis and subjective interpretation, as it involves articulating one's own reactions
and thoughts while also considering the broader context of the text and its potential
interpretations.
One of the difficulties in writing such an essay lies in finding the right balance between
summarizing the text and providing insightful commentary. It's essential to demonstrate a deep
understanding of the text's themes, characters, and literary devices while also offering a unique
perspective that adds value to the analysis. Additionally, grappling with one's own emotional
responses to the text and effectively conveying them in writing can be a daunting task.
Furthermore, crafting a coherent and well-structured essay is crucial in this genre. It requires
careful organization to ensure that the reader can follow the progression of ideas and understand
the rationale behind the interpretations presented. Balancing personal reflections with textual
evidence and scholarly insights can also be challenging, as it requires skillful integration of
various sources to support one's arguments effectively.
In conclusion, writing a reader response essay is a complex undertaking that demands both
analytical prowess and introspective insight. It requires the writer to navigate between personal
reactions and objective analysis while crafting a coherent and compelling argument. However,
with dedication and practice, mastering this form of literary analysis can be a rewarding
experience.

Asset Inequities Of Black Sexual Minority Essay
The Asset Inequities of Black Sexual Minority Women s Health An anthology edited
by, Hull, Bell Scott, and Smith (1982) titled, All the women are White, all the Blacks
are men, but some of us are brave succinctly captures the ubiquitous pairing of women
with Whiteness, Blackness with men. I would go further and argue that sexual
minorities experience both gendered (maleness) and racialized (whiteness) coupling.
Rendering the experiences of those who are Black, women and sexual minorities

Suggesting that policies and services tailored to the specific health care needs of
Black SMW are crucial to providing the best care for this population. To this end, a
suitable mechanism for addressing the health care disparities among Black SMW is
intersectionality theory. The present paper, therefore argues for the application of an
intersectional prism in health research. Drawing from assets theory and life course
theory, this paper aims to elucidate several critical themes that should be considered
in future research endeavors that incorporates the needs of marginalized voices.
Intersectionality theory was developed to address the multifaceted experiences of
marginalized people (Crenshaw, 1989). Intersectionality theory states that systems of
oppression are interconnected and there are those who are multiply burdened because
they hold more than one marginalized social identity. Health care in the Historical
Context First, it is important to note that the historical experiences of Black women,
and of women in general, also include lesbian and bisexual women of color. Second,
it is critical that we examine the health care experiences of Black lesbians and
bisexuals within a socioeconomic, political and cultural context. The mistreatment of
Black women by medical institutions and professionals within the United States
(U.S.) health care system is well documented: from the immoral medical experiments
conducted on Black slaves, to the forced sterilization, and subpar

Relationship Between Financial Incentives And
Productivity...
Review of Literature Kazmi and Farooquie (2000), investigated the relationship
between financial incentives and productivity by administering structured
questionnaire to 150 SSI located in the industrial cities of Aligarh, Basti,
Firozabad, Kanpur, Saharanpur of Uttar Pradesh. The study enumerated that profit
sharing, bonus, financial support on festivals increased wage piece rate basis.
Overtime, extra duty allowance, advances and loans prizes and incentives for low
absenteeism has been found to be effective in improving productivity.
Ramakrishna K T (2001), pointed out that the nature and magnitude of financial
problem faced by the small scale industrial sector of India, the role of government,
SFC and banks in financing this sector. He concentrated several countries like
Japan USA etc. Vasantha R 2004 opined that as the Small Scale Industries sector is
coming under primary sector the banks regularly provide loans to small industries
but the problem faced by Small Scale Industries sector is delay in sanctioning of
bank loans in right time. The small industries also face the problem in giving
collateral securities for obtaining loans. Mathur S P (1992), tried to explore the
reasons behind sluggish growth of small scale sector, inspire of states encouragement

The Nutcracker Analysis
The Nutcracker is an 1816 ballet with a symphony created by Peter Ilyitch
Tchaikovsky who was a Russian composer, conductor and pianist mostly knew in
Europe and the United States. The performance of his work in New York City,
2016 is displayed by the Music Director of the New York City Ballet Andrew
Litton. Last year, Litton was in charge of conducting the work, and, was also part of
the performance as a pianist. In the visual performing such as choreography and
conduction was developed by the professional dancer and choreographer George
Balanchineto whom the title of the work George Balanchine s, The Nutcracker is
dedicated to. Balanchine s legacy has been recreated by New York s Ballet Masters

Analysis Of Dances With Wolves And Unforgiven
According to the film critic, Phillip French, The Western has always been about
America rewriting and reinterpreting her own past, if this is indeed the case, then the
two most popular Westerns of the early 1990s reveal that many Americans had
rejected the traditional interpretation of the Old West. The critically and
commercially successful, Dances with Wolves and Unforgiven, repudiated the
patriotic frontier myth that had characterised the Western when it was the preeminent
genre in American cinema. Informed by new Western historiography, itself an
expression of political concerns that had been moving into the American mainstream
since the 1960s, the movies display a complex and nuanced understanding of the
frontier experience. Dances with Wolves rejected the traditional narrative of the
inherent superiority of the Anglo American hero conquering both Native Americans
and the wilderness, and also focused on the environmental destruction that
accompanied the ideology of Manifest Destiny. Unforgiven would similarly reject
the frontier myth, replacing the democratic, civilised frontier town, with a brutal
regime in which white men s property rights prevail over any sense of justice. The
film is noted for its self reflexive nature, with a writer documenting and embellishing
the tales of the Old West before the viewer s eyes. This self reflexion indicates that
Americans were re evaluating the myths of the frontier, and seeing them for what
they were, creations by the

Carpe Diem In To His Coy Mistress By Andrew Marvell
The poem To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell, speaks to his coy mistress
about how time is rapidly passing and he wishes her to reciprocate his feelings
along with sexual desires. In this poem I feel like Marvell is also talking to the
reader and encouraging them to act upon their desires. Ultimately live life to the
fullest because time is running out. This poem is all about Carpe Diem with a
satirical aspect on love. Essentially Marvell is trying to get this mistress to sleep
with him. He wants her to abandon her false modesty and give in to his requests,
so that all his problems can be fixed with sex. In lines 1 20 Marvell starts out
talking about how ideally, he would spend eternity loving her before having sex
with her. Verbs like sit, think, and walk are associated with slowing down but they
are used to show they have no time, We would sit down, and think which way to
walk, and pass our long love s day. (Marvell, To His Coy Mistress, 3 4) So, he
would love her, but they don t have time. There is an aspect of exaggeration via
exoticism seen in Ganges vs Humbler. She is by the Ganges with rubies while he is
by the Humbler complaining. I think this really hints at the reality of what he is
trying to get at because rubies represent talismans that are supposed to preserve
virginity (Mays, pg 765, footnote 7). There is a controlling aspect of the speaker
where he then again states he would wait if there was the time. Throughout the stanza
the passion grows and he

Control Theory
6 The Complexity of Control Travis Hirschi 1935 University of Arizona Author of
Social Bond Theory Hirschi s Two Theories and Beyond T ravis Hirschi has
dominated control theory for four decades. His influence today is undiminished and
likely will continue for years, if not decades, to come (see, e.g., Britt Gottfredson,
2003; Gottfredson, 2006; Kempf, 1993; Pratt Cullen, 2000). Beyond the sheer
scholarly talent manifested in his writings, what accounts for Hirschi s enduring
influence on criminological theory? Three interrelated considerations appear to
nourish the appeal of his thinking. First, Hirschi s theories are stated parsimoniously.
This means that his theory s core propositions are easily understood (e.g., the lack of

His goal was to start a theoretical fight; he succeeded (see also Kornhauser, 1978).
Again, as a control theorist, he argued that these two perspectives asked the wrong
theoretical question: Why are people motivated to commit crimes? For differential
association theory, the answer was that youths are enveloped by a deviant culture that
they learn in interaction with others. This positive learning that is, learning to value
crime is what moves them to break the law. For strain theory, the blockage of goals
creates a frustration that is the engine that drives individuals into crime. Hirschi,
however, asserted that these theories were explaining something that did not require
explanation motivation. If humans would by their natures seek the easy and
immediate The Complexity of Control 111 gratifications inherent in crime, then they
did not need to learn to want to commit crimes or be driven into crime by
unbearable strains in order to break the law. In effect, such criminal cultural values
and strains were redundant and thus did not explain who would be a delinquent and
who would not be a delinquent. For Hirschi, of course, the proper theoretical question
was: Why don t people break the law? What differentiate offenders from non
offenders are the factors that restrain people from acting on their wayward impulses.
The theoretical task thus

Analysis Of The Hollow Men
A Short Analysis and Discussion for the piece: The Hollow Men In various
occasions, the human race tends to make several mistakes throughout the span of
their lives. In the poem, The Hollow Men, written by Thomas Stearns Eliot, is not
exactly the most uplifting of poetic literature. Although, the poem does have some
underlying value to its notion; it emphasizes moral values, responsibility, and a
depiction of the aftermath of World War I. T.S. Eliot depicts the poem s message into
five sections; the first, speaks of a group of individual humanbeings who are
characterized as We are the hollow men, We are the stuffed men ... Headpiece filled
with straw and basically confusing the reader. Eliot is trying to represent a group of...

Once more, the emphasis on detail for the individuals is necessary for Eliot to
elaborate for the reader and allow it to create hollowness and sense of emptiness.
Lastly, the final section of the poem is the huge downer of the entire poem. It
starts with a nursery rhyme Here we go round the prickly pear which analyzes the
surroundings once again and finally explains the reason for the immobility and
lifeless presence of the individuals. The poem states, Between the motion, And the
act, Falls the Shadow emphasis on the Shadow, which has now taken control of
their actions, they cannot even exist. Eliot actually slowly starts write human
expressions but then it quickly dies away with him depicting how the fate of the
human race will fall Not with a bang but a whimper . As a conclusion, this poem
has quite a few ties in with several of Eliot s works and other writers. Vincent
Persichetti, a composer of the Modern Era in music, actually composed a work
The Hollow Men for Trumpet and String Orchestra in 1944, nearly 20 years later
since The Hollow Men was actually written. The piece highly resembles the written
work because of how hollow and dissonant the piece is. Persichetti s talents could
be seen in this piece and is most notably one of his finest works. The piece premiered
in 1946 for the first and T. S. Eliot later received the

Sitting In Chairs And A Little Marching Band
This concert was not like any other I have attended. Two groups known as Sitting
in Chairs and A Little Marching Band were linked together to create the Mucca
Pazza. Before going to see this concert, I expected to see another group of musicians
dressed in tuxedos and dresses while playing classical songs with violins and cellos.
However, I was shocked to see the attire they wore, and I was surprised to hear the
musicthey played. Both groups performed several songs that amounted to an
enjoyable and entertaining show. Because the groups performed a total of twenty
songs, I will go into detail about a few of which I thought were the most engaging
and amusing. Right off the bat I found Octopus Plus One , by Ronnie Kuller,
enjoyable. This song was performed by Sitting in Chairs. The joke one of the
musicians made about how it was music? was what peaked my interest. In the
beginning, the tonality is established right away as being mysterious and suspicious,
with a moderate amount of energy. As the song evolved, the tonality became more
jittery and energetic. In addition, the tempoincreased significantly from Andante at
the beginning to Allegro or even Vivace during the climax. Near the end of the song,
the tonality returned to being suspicious and mysterious, and the tempo slowed back
down to Adante. Concluding the piece was a finale that left the audience feeling
happy and upbeat. Because of the contrasting tonalities and the climax that occurred
in the middle of the work,

How Does Huck Mature
In the novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, the main
character Huckleberry is an intriguing boy made up of many diverse characteristics
such as, benevolence, sympathy, carefulness, acceptance and most important:
bravery. Huck being only thirteen years old, uneducated, yet still has the guts to
take on the world with hit sound heart is captivating to the reader throughout the
entire story. Huck is very mature for his age, and in many ways he is a man. He
takes responsibility for changing the things in his life he doesn t like. He sets out to
protect himself, protect those that matter to him. He covers his tracks. He has many
of the elements of the hero. He receives inspiration at critical moments; he acts on
instinct towards his own beliefs and against the law. He does what suits him and
others from moment to moment. He allows himself to change and adapt according to
circumstances. He accomplishes things that no child and many men could have
accomplished. He s sly, self sufficient, painfully honest and open, despite the deceit.

Pap acts very aggressively towards Huck. When the courageous boy decided living
with his dad was something he did not need to do anymore he just left. He had no
qualms about it; it was almost like it was his only option and he never questions his
decision. He didn t even worry about what might be out there that could be harmful
or whether he d survive or not. Huck knew what he had to do and he did it. This
audacious act displays not only bravery but the confidence to be

Canadian Tire s Current Data Warehouse
Overview of Canadian Tire s Current Data Warehouse Gathering requirements from
end users was an important step in resolving the issues that currently exist at
Canadian Tire. Gathering requirements for a data warehouse is not the same as
defining the requirements for an operational system (Ponniah, pg. 121). When you
research and then develop any system, it is critical that the system produces exactly
what the users need to perform their specific tasks. CTC did not have this production
for their end users. These users typically do not understand the big picture workings
of a data warehousingprocess. Therefore, the help of a business analyst is critical.
From the results provided in the case study, we can agree that these requirements
must be addressed:
Capacity constraints
User query times
Defined data model
Full enabling of access to enterprise data
Overview of Canadian Tire s Business Intelligence The current process for CTC to
acquire BI is a broken system. Much of the information derived, from the current
data in the warehouse, was done by FRAG, individual user groups and hired
business analysts who extracted data and created reports. This was creating a serious
misallocation of resources and responsibilities throughout the company. Shadow
groups, created to complete some of the required BI tasks, were not only less
efficient than an organized strategy, but were also a security risk to CTC. With small
groups taking over the responsibility of creating BI, the

Essay on Cyber Terrorism
Cyber Terrorism
Thus far we have scratched the surface of the ever perplexing problem of terrorism.
As it has evolved those in the position of countering it have also gained some
valuable experience. Even with this knowledge it is very difficult, bordering on
impossible to prevent terrorist acts from occurring. In the recent past there has been
an extra element added to this confusing and dangerous equation, the Internet and
other computer capabilities. Cyber terrorism is a realistic possibility but is it as
detrimental as other forms of conventional terrorism such as a car bomb? I will argue
that the implications of a cyber attack could be just as harmful.
Traditionally terrorist acts target a specific locale and are executed ... Show more

On the contrary, the only tools needed for cyber terror are the proper knowledge and
a powerful computer.
One of the key elements of terrorism is the creation of mass fear. This takes little
effort with the use of computers. So many people are already intimidated by the
efficacies of computers that the simplest cyber act could infuse a massive scare.
Take for example the spreading of a virus. As soon as the word is out that a virus
has been detected people take all possible actions to ensure that their files and data
are protected. Taking this action to a higher level, if someone were to put a virus
through a bank mainframe or something even bigger than that, then the general public
would be afraid to make transactions over the computer and would return to doing
business in person. The concern related to cyber terrorism is warranted although we
have been lucky thus far not to have experienced firsthand anything devastating.
In summary, cyber terrorism opens opportunities for terrorists by expanding the arena
and through the mass dependency on computers. So what leads me to believe that a
cyber terrorist attack could be just as harmful as conventional terrorism? There are a
few reasons which lead me to this conclusion.
First of all, other forms of terrorism have been seen often enough to determine to
some extent what to expect. Granted there are no guaranteed results of a conventional
attack there are

The importance of making it to appointments
There are several reasons that making it to appointments on time is important. It
effects not just the clinic itself but also effects every other department that is
connected with it and the hospital as a whole. Being a Soldier I am supposed to
lead by example and I can t lead if I can t even show up for any of my appointments
on time. The over all effect of this action is very negative all through out the entire
hospital. Clinics are very closely related to every other department in the hospital.

not do this if our staff is constantly wasting appointment slots that the providers could

This is poor team skills and I have then tarnished my reputation with my fellow
coworkers. Which then makes every day working a little harder because my
coworkers then can not trust me that I can get work done as they may need. Fourth
of all, after causing the clinic and the pharmacy to lose revenue, I then lose money
for the hospital over all causing a flex in the budget and they then would have to
find other means of regaining what I have then caused them to lose which means
longer work hours for the military and possibly days off without pay for the
civilians. That then causes more stress to the already stressed out service members.
Causing a shift in the schedule that they currently have. Making them work more
longer hours to try and get back the money that they have lost by working a more
stressful schedule like twelve hour shifts and so on and so fourth. This also causes
me and every one that has a family to then lose what precious time that we have with
our families. As it is we hardly get enough time with them and by me being
irresponsible, I cause them to lose even more time then they should have. This is
unfair to everyone around me which is something that needed careful consideration,
but none of these effects have crossed my mind which is very irresponsible of me to
begin with. Not to mention, if the hospital was to lose too much revenue, it might
have enough impact to actually shut the hospital

American Dream Argumentative Draft
Everyone thinks it s so easy and cool to join Armed Forces, but to be honest, half of
them don t even know what the effects would be when they join and after they
leave the military. People usually take our veterans for granted and they don t
acknowledge what veterans have done for us and our country. Veterans should be
shown respect when they come back home, but they don t and to me that s just
disrespectful and it also shows how out of line citizens are. Everyone who has
fought for their country, chose to fight, they never had to, but because they seen that
people needed to be protected, they put their lives on the line. The least we could do
is say Thank you! but no, they don t even get that and that s really messed up. They
took a bullet for this country, they lost their lives for this country, they have
nightmares every night because of things they had to see while defending this
country. What do we do to show them our appreciation though? Nothing. As a result,
most veterans don t feel a sense of belonging and loyalty to their country.
Many African American veterans salute and pledge an oath of loyalty to their
country, but even after they have protected it, they don t get protection back in
return. All the black soldiers who have came back or have been killed while in the
frontline, either don t get remembered, get disrespected, or get killed when they
come back from serving. After all

Callaway Golf Case Study
1. Callaway s strategy from 1988 1997 with respect to:
A. Research and Development From its initial existence R D and innovative products
had been the lifeline of CGC. When Callaway bought into the company his first
initiative was to develop original products. Innovation and superior performing
products are important in golf because equipment is thought to have a significant
impact on player performance. Moreover, innovation was important because CGC
had to be the technological leader to sell its products at premium price and continue
to exceed customer expectations. The industry was also characterized as being driven
by new product development because manufacturers were trying to bet each other to
the next best club so CGC ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was mostly like due to the fact that this outlet appealed mostly to experienced
or avid golfers which were brand conscience, but did not depend on their equipment
for performance. Also on course salespeople had less time to sell products due to the
other duties they had to perform. Callaway Golf Sales Company, a subsidiary of
CGC, sold products to customers at wholesale. Products were sold through outside
sales, in house telemarketing, and customer representatives. Outside salespeople
performed many duties including physical inventory counts, running demo days, and
training salespeople. CGC used foreign subsidiaries and international golf club
distributors to sale its products in more than 50 countries.
D. Price CGC had a premium pricing strategy. It was providing a high quality
product at premium price to the average golfer who was looking for a product to
five them an edge in performance. CGC also had consistent pricing and offered all
retailers the same pricing structure regardless of the volume they acquired. What is
more, CGC rarely allowed retailers to advertise prices on its products. Foreign
subsidiaries and international golf club distributors did receive products at a reduced
export pricing discount to ease the effect of international distribution, advertising, and
selling expenses.
2. Callaway s strategy was successful mainly because its innovative edge. During

The Tokyo Railway Station Building
The Tokyo railway station building is located in Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan in the
Marunouchi business district. The station which acts as Tokyo s main intercity
terminal is served by the Tokyo Metro network, Japan Railways regional commuter
lines as well as the Shinkansen high speed railway lines. The Tokyo Station also has a
reputation of being the busiest station in the country, judging by the number of trains
it serves per day; approximately three thousand trains in one day. Furthermore, the
trainstation has a hotel and gallery within its premises. In terms of architecture and
historical culture, the station actually has a long history that dates back more than a
hundred years, thereby making it one of the one of the few major examples of
buildings designed in classical style remaining in Tokyo, and Japan as a whole.
Chronicle information of the building Even though the Tokyo Station was
constructed in 1914, its actual plan is connected to the history of Japan s rail in the
1880s (Ito n.p). It is therefore viewed by the Japanese as being significant in the

several railway tracks were already passing through Tokyo, thereby necessitating the
need for a central terminal to be built in the region between Ueno and Shinbashi. The

Essay On The Aztecs
In 1519, the Aztecs were the most powerful kingdom in Mesoamerica. At the peak of
their reign, their territory stretched as far as 80,000 square miles over southern
Mexico, and had as many as fifteen million people.
The Aztecs emerged in the thirteenth century, as a nomadic tribe. They were guided
by their chief god, Huitzilopochtli, the war god and representative of the sun. The
Aztecs couldn t find a place to settle in the crowded central Mexico. Eventually, they
were taken as serfs and mercenaries by the Colhuacan. Their population increased as
they married the women that belonged to their neighbors. Eventually, the lowly
Aztecs received a Toltec princess for their chief In 1323, the Aztecs sacrificed the
princess with the belief that she would become a war goddess. The Colhuacan were
horrified, and expelled the Aztecs from their territory.
The Aztecs, no longer a hungry band of nomads, but a group of wise people after
serving the Colhuacan, set out to find a new territory once again. They traveled
southwest to the borders of the lakes that once surrounded Mexico City. There, they
found two unoccupied, marshy islands that they quickly took and claimed as their
own. They believed they were chosen by the gods and foretold that they would find
a mighty city at a place where they would see an eagle perched on a cactus devouring
a snake. Eventually, on a deserted island, they saw the majestic sight. Around 1345,
under the rule of the ChiefTenoch, they had

Robe And Mary Bailey Analysis
American diaries in the early years of the country really show how people felt and
acted during these times. They displayed unfiltered attitudes, concerns and
prejudices that they felt at the time. Both Robert Robe and Mary Stuart Bailey
showed what life was like for them during their lives and trips moving west. In
their journals, they described their journeys, the way the felt about the trip and
their daily routines. The first subject matter is the actual journey both Robe and
Bailey had taken and described. In Robe s passage, he was crossing the plains to
Oregon while Bailey was crossing the plains to California. Robert Robe and Mary
Bailey both took nearly the same route, however, one year apart. It was a tough
road to their goals and they faced hardships, such as when Robe s friends horses
were scared off and they could not find them. The Bailey family faced hardships,
such as when in Sacramento, when the Dr. had three hundred dollars worth of things
destroy. In their passages, both Robert and Mary had their own views on the trip.
Robe had been hopeful and seemed happy with his entries. He was optimistic about
the trip, having successful hunting trips during the journey and how the actual trip
was coming along. Mary Bailey was not as optimistic. Throughout her writings, she
was very homesick and unhappy. She was upset... Show more content on

They had to get up early and start moving quickly. When possible, they hunted and
gathered supplies for the trip when they were running low. They traveled through
thick and thin and depending on the difficulty of the day, it changed their moods.
On days in which it rained, they were not as cheerful or confident. However, on
days with good weather and good things happening, they were bright and cheery.
Like when it was an unpleasant day for Mary, she was crying and unhappy. Yet, on
a day in which weather was good, she claimed she felt better and wrote like she was

The Canadian Inuit And Animals For Supplies
For many of years animal activists have been trying to put a stop to all animal
hunting, abuse, using animals for supplies. The problem with doing this is that it
may effect a large amount of people who live off of these animals, in particularly
the seal. The Canadian Inuit is a large group of people about 46,000 people as an
estimation, that use seals as a multi source. The Canadian Inuit use the seal for a
source of cash through fur sales, they used the seal for meat, and once used seal for
oil lamps. In 1980 animal rightsactivists got their way and made it so that seal
hunting was no longer legal. This affected thousands of Canadian Inuit who lived in
small arctic hamlets who lived off of seal. The question is who is better off the
Canadian Inuit, or the animals rights activists? Peter Singer is a utilitarian a
philosopher who was much different from other utilitarians. The book Doing Ethics
states that Classic Utilitarianismsay that the right action is the one that produces the
best balance of happiness over unhappiness.(page 547) SInger s takes a different
approach. He thinks of including both animals and humans in the word or category
of Everyone The pain and pleasure of all sentient beings much be considered when
we are deciding which action maximizes the greater good.(page547) I believe that
Peter Singer would be one that has the possibility of being in favor of the ban on all
seal hunting even if it would devastate the Inuit, if they did not take pain

The chief supervisor of patient escorts argued that the problem with the present
hiring system is that the application does not have any useful information on the
applicant. He said that there are no longer questions that give insights into the
employee s personality. His suggestion was to ask applicants about hobbies, outside
activities and their personal likes and dislikes on the application. He also suggested
that each applicant be required to have 3 letters of recommendation, centered on the
applicant s ability to be friendly at all times, from people who know the applicant
well. On the surface, this option seems doable and helpful. A ... Show more content

The second phase of the project includes constructing a pulp mill and will cost US$1
billion.
Today (2004) PГ©rez main problem is that he has to decide whether the company
should go through a horizontal expansion or a forward integration. In others words,
if the company should continue with the second phase of The Nueva Aldea project
becoming the largest market pulp producer in the world and having the possibility of
foregoing other large projects in the next decade or to take advantage of their low
costs in pulp production by forward integrating into paper manufacturing.
Evaluation of the two alternatives:
As regards the horizontal expansion, there are several points that must be taken
into account as they demonstrate that this option will be the correct one: * This
expansion will grow the company market share because they have a cost
advantage. * For a company is better and easier to grow in a sector that they are
presently functioning. * The market seems to be moving in favor. * As a result of a
horizontal expansion the company can achieve economies of scale and reduce
significantly their costs. * Pulp is AraucoÐ’ Ò‘s main industrial activity, generating up
52% of EBITDA * Pulp production is the core competency of Arauco. * Becoming
the market leader will allow them to control supply and demand of the market of
pulp. * They have young forests. * Arauco is one of the worldÐ’ Ò‘s premier forestry

Movie 42 Movie Analysis
Jackie Robinson was not only a hall of famer, but one of the most important
African Americans. The film 42 is a biographical sports movie about Jackie
Robinson. The film focuses on Jackie Robinson s shift from a player in the Negro
League to the Major League. The movie explains the struggles Robinson had to face
during these hard times. The film shows Robinson as becoming successful in the
Major League and making it to the 1947 World Series Game. Aside from minor
details, the film 42 is accurate. Through clothing, people, and events, the movie is
able to show how accurate it actually is.
Seventy years ago, when he played for the Brooklyn Dodgers, Jackie Robinson was
the biggest story in the baseball world. (Henninger) From the start, Robinson was a
skilled athlete. He lettered in four sports at the University of California. In 1945, he
started at shortstop in the Negro Leagues. Those teams in the Negro league were
separate from major league baseball. (Brown) The movie 42 is accurate with
showing of the clothing the people were wearing. In the movie, the teams were not
wearing helmets when they were hitting. 42 was set to be in the 1940s, and
helmets weren t required to wear until 1971, the Major Leagues required to wear
them. (42 Movie) Rachel Robinson is always in nice looking clothes. In any

Introduction to Different Types of Mental Training
An athlete qualifying for an Olympic Final competes against athletes who are fit,
strong, flexible, powerful and skilful. All the competitors have devoted time and
energy to becoming top class athletes. However, there is only one champion and two
medal winners. Often the difference between a medal and eighth place is a fraction
of a second or a few centimetres. Interviews with athletes who succeed at this highest
level often focus on which aspect of their preparation made them different from
everyone else. Nine times out of ten these great athletes refer to a mental edge or
psychological toughness.
An athlete who wants to compete against other talented athletes needs to think ...

Then you re able to imagine yourself coping with these negative influences in a
number of ways and being able to perform the task successfully.
Developing Confidence
A football player has been taking penalties for his team on a regular basis but keeps
missing them which have knocked his confidence in his ability to score penalties.
The sport psychologist could work with the player asking him to remember having a
strong support foot placement, striking the ball hard and true, thinking about where
exactly he wants the ball to go, seeing the ball hit the back of the net and thinking
about the elation experienced at successfully scouring a goal. The sport psychologist
would do this because seeing yourself perform well in your mind is a good way of
increasing a sense of mastery. It increases your belief in your ability to perform a task.
Relaxation
A sprinter is in the start position in the final of the men s 100m hurdles at the
Olympics Games. In this example the athlete would imagine emotions associated with
relaxation and together with other techniques such as breathing exercises, could try to
control anxiety, arousal and stress levels
Mental Rehearsal
Mental rehearsal is one aspect of imagery. It is a strategy for practicing something in
your mind before actually performing the task. The difference between mental
rehearsal and imagery is that mental rehearsal does not take into account how the
skill is rehearsed or what senses and emotions are used

Corporate Training Evaluation Process Opportunity
Section I Corporate Training Evaluation Process Opportunity The financial retirement
industry relies on the professional education level of their employees to offer
effective and efficient assistance to its clients with an ethical responsibility of
accurate and complete financial reporting (Arthur, Wolfe, Staley, 2005). This requires
a significant amount of training to become proficient with the systems and very
knowledgeable of the guidelines and rules associated with transactional changes that
are allowed that must also extend to leadership proficiency and growth (Arthur,
Wolfe, Staley, 2005). According to Gomez (2003), evaluations of corporate training
programs within the financial recordkeeping industry focus on participant reactions
and the attainment of the training objective with little to no evaluation of changes to
on the job performances or organizational improvements. A truly effective evaluation
program has an ethical responsibility to address the seven main codes of ethics which
includes accountability, conflict of interest, disclosure, integrity, personal conduct,
protection of privacy, and social responsibility (Chow, 2001). The need to be
competitive to survive is just as important as the ethical responsibility of the
organization. According to Peak (as cited in Savery Luks, 2004), research shows that
there is a distinct correlation between increased training budgets and improved
productivity and operating profits reinforcing the common wisdom

Examining the Timeless Mystery Novels The Hound of the...
Throughout the years the characters and plots of mystery novels have evolved and
have been modernized. However, no matter when or where the novels are written,
they all succeed in having major impacts on the unsuspecting readers. For some
mystery fans, the opening of the book can awaken the butterflies in the pit of their
stomachs. As the stories progress, the reader is drawn further and further into the
novel until it becomes impossible to pry the book from their hands. Mystery novels
written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyleand Charles Dickens are not exceptions and are
overflowing with suspenseful scenes. The mysteries The Hound of the Baskervilles

In Jasper s case, in The Mystery of Edwin Drood, the character development is the
complete opposite. After the disappearance of his nephew, Jasper not only gains self
confidence, but becomes suspicious of everyone and revenge becomes his main
priority. The other characters have also noticed Jasper s transformation as Rosa says
that she, ... [has] not seen him [Jasper] since the fatal night and then he was present
in gloomy watchfulness, as representing his lost nephew and burning to avenge him
(Dickens 168). Therefore, Jasper s presence is felt throughout [the novel] as an
overhanging threat (Cardwell xi). This leads to the mystery changing the main
characters. Whether it is for better or for worse, it is something intriguing that the
reader can ponder as they read.
At first glance, it may appear as though the only people affected by the mystery are
the protagonists, but in fact the majority of the society and the secondary characters
are influenced. In The Hound of the Baskervilles, the fear of the hound causes many
characters to be on edge and fearful of the Moor, which results in the reader
experiencing constant suspense and fearing the mystical hound. More specifically,
Sir Henry Baskerville is always anxious, is always shaking and fearing that his next
breath may be his last. The

How does Alan Bennett express conflicting views about...
How does Alan Bennett express conflicting views about education through his
portrayal of the four teachers in В« The History Boys В»?
In this play, the author Alan Bennett wants to convince the audience that education
can be approached in many different ways. In fact, through the characters of Hector,
Irwin, Dorothy Lintott and the headmaster, he shows us that there is no right or
wrong way of teaching.
The first educator properly introduced to the audience is Hector, a rather unusual
teacher. The first scene starts in French, which is quite unexpected since Hector is a
literature teacher. In this scene, we also understand Hector s opinion about renowned
universities: for him, going to Oxford or Cambridge is the same as going to ... Show

What is history? History is women following behind... with a bucket. Her way of
teaching is traditional, and she is a realistic woman.
Finally, Irwin is, from my point of view, the main and the most important character
of this play, since he is the narrator of this story. He has a completely different view
of education than Hector, we could almost say they are opposite. One of the first
thing we learn about him is that he studied in Oxford, which is probably one of the
reasons why the headmaster hired him as the new history teacher for the boys. He
seems very intelligent and cultivated despite his very young age since when being
introduced to the students during their French improvisation, he uses a French word
that even Hector doesn t know: Il est commotionnГ©, peut Г Єtre? . Unlike Hector, he
really prepares his pupils for their exam, and teaches the boys to approach history
in a way which can be seen as a game taking an original approach by simply arguing
the opposite to what the normal belief is. They take it as a game, seeing an
opportunity to show off the facts which Mrs Lintott has taught them. But Irwin
believes it can lead to greater truth, in that it forces them to think more deeply.
During the lesson he shares with Hector, we really see the contrast between the two
characters. For Hector, the Holocaust is a subject that cannot be argued, but Irwin
sees there an opportunity to, once more, see history from a

Greek Creation Myth Project
Myth Project Written PortionRevisedDaniel Li
The Greek creation myth starts off with chaos. Within this chaos the Earth, or Gaia,
appears. Gaia then gives birth to Uranus, the sky, and has children with him. But their
children are fearsome and powerful, and Uranus banishes them away. Uranus s
actions cause Gaia to have her son kill his father. The son then becomes king. The
son, Kronos, then repeats his father s mistake of wanting to remove his children.
Kronos is too slain by his son. Krono s son, Zeus, becomes king. Under Zeus s rule,
life is populated on Earth. Greek culture had many different aspects. The culture was
mainly patriarchal. The husband was in charge of the household. Only boys would
usually be sent to school. To ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We want to understand the experience of transcendence (Armstrong 6). The gods
of Ancient Greece all resembled human beings (Krentz). The gods are shown
having children, making mistakes and fighting each other. They are also shown as
being greedy. Both Uranus and Kronos wanted to keep their power as the ruler of
the sky. It is that idea of the gods being similar to us let humans attempt to
experience transcendence. If the gods are similar to humans it is simpler. There is
now no need for humans to grow wings or horns to understand what being a god is
like. You are able to think of a god as someone like you, but much more powerful,
on a grand scale. You could control the ocean, or the sky, or the sun, or the moon.
Yet, the gods are flawed. They are imperfect. If Uranus was not such a bad father
and did not banish his children, he would of survived. The same applies to Kronos.
It is from the flaws of the gods that we learn. We learn what not to do. Myths
provided you with a foundation which you could build upon and to perfect yourself
with. The flaws of the gods give you new insight for your own life. But in the end,
myths are just explanations of ordinary things or the mundane (6). In the creation
myth would be very boring if it just said the Earth suddenly appeared, then the sky
formed. The gods were a part of the world just like humans. We do not want the
boring explanations of things. We look towards the different possibilities because it s

The Hippie Movement In The 1960 s
The 1960 s were a decade of revolution and change in politics, music and society
around the U.S. The 60 s were also an era of protest. Many of the protest were for
the unfair treatment of races (civil right movement). Female activists demanded
more rights, the birth control pill and contraceptives were introduced as well. The
hippie trend however, was the most brave and boldest movement in the 60 s.
(English online) The hippie movement started with young people in their teens
/early 20s. They were known as rebels to the society. They went into public with
sometimes barely to no clothes. They smoked marijuana, drunk alcohol, and were
big believers in pre marital sex. They acted in such a way only to show the
government and the rest of the world that it was time for a change. To become a

and females sometimes wore flower headbands and bracelets. No certain gender

You have already met the person, so remind yourself about the conversations you

selfish or complacent. Notification and details: Call and notify them as to when
and where you are going. Negotiate a day and time, or make a suggestion. It
sounds obvious, but give them a little advance notice. Calling someone a few hours

Retrospective Memory Essay
1. What is memory?
Memory is a set of cognitive processes that allow us to remember past information
(retrospective memory) and future obligations (prospective memory) so we can
navigate our lives. The strength of our memory can be influenced by the connections
we make through different cognitive faculties as well as by the amount of time we
spend devoting to learning specific material across different points in time. New
memories are created every time we remember specific event, which results in
retrospective memories changing over time. Memory recall can be affected
retrospectively such as seeing increased recall in the presence of contextual cues or
false recall of information following leading questions. Memory also includes the
process ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What inferences about memory can we draw from the finding that messages are
transformed as they are passed from one person to the next? Messages become
shorter when passed from one person to the next. Memories can be modified to fit
one s personal social experiences (i.e., conventionalization). Memory is unreliable,
sensory stimuli are not stored as is but are actively transformed by the brain for
storage depending on individual factors such as personal relevance and expectations.
The most essential information is better remembered, but what is considered most
essential may depend on an individual s experiences. This suggests memory does not
function as a video recording, but is a highly complex process that is influenced by an
individual s levels of attention, motivation, expectations, experiences, emotional state,
etc. It also suggests that memory is an active process that involves constructing
narratives out of events rather than passively recording

people of Rwanda, who experienced a tremendously dissimilar adversity from
what most people reading The Resilience Factor have or will face. However, this
sharp contrast also allows us to see the universality of resilience in all of humanity,
independent of culture, geography, or values. Kwihangana, the Rwandan process
of drawing strength from within oneself, bears a striking resemblance to one of
the techniques of putting it in perspective, in which you tell yourself that you can
deal with an adversity, that you do have the strength to overcome (Reivich and
ShattГ© 208). The process of ABC ing adversities also includes the essential
aspect of identifying and accepting an adversity for what it is, closely related to
gukomeza ubuzima, which allows Rwandans to do the same by accepting struggle
and continuing to fight. Finally, the practice kwongera kubaho, which forces
Rwandans to acknowledge their existential being, is closely related to part of The
Resilience Factor s conclusion, which highlights the existential paradox of
mortality. This paradox is what makes time precious, as we contemplate the risk of
taking action while we only have one life to live (309). This relates to our resilience
in that we must balance the fear of failure and pain while taking the right risks to
thrive. This balance may not lay directly in The Resilience Factor, the book can help

Paid Employment in the Home Essay
Paid Employment in the Home
In her book The Second Shift, Arlie Hochschild describes how two job married
couples in the United States deal with the structural problem of the domestic work
shift, i.e., that when both members of a marriage work outside of the home, the
domestic work becomes an added burden to one or both of the members in addition
to their outside jobs. Modern society has increased the work load of the family,
thereby increasing tension in marriages and taking away time for leisure and
recreation for both spouses. Hochschild calls this a stalled revolution (12) because
women s entrance into the full time workforce has yet to bring about the necessary
structural change in American family life. Assuming that this state ... Show more

However, the 40 percent increase conveys the drastic growth of the home work
population, which seems to be generalizable to smaller sub groups of the home
work population as defined below. Because this movement back into the home is
relatively new and because of its current relatively small size, it is difficult for
social scientists to get large enough samples to make judgments about the
characteristics of home work (Kraut 1989). Home work is seen in the current
literature in both highly optimistic and strongly negative terms, and the size of the
work at home population has been described as less than 2 percent of the U.S.
labor force (Shamir 1992, p. 280) and nearly one quarter of the labor force
(Farmanfarmaian 1989, p. 37). These contradictions are due to both the size of this
group of workers, as mentioned earlier, and a lack of agreement between
researchers on a definition of the home worker (for example, how many hours of
work at home per week, working out of the home vs. working at home, etc.).
Robert Kraut (1989) groups home workers into 3 categories: substitutors, the self
employed, and supplementers. Substitutors are those who work at home regularly,
either full time or part time, as a substitution for working in an office. They can be
subcontractors or participants in a corporate work at home

The battle for Canadian liberty and autonomy is being fought today on the plains of
France and Belgium, Borden said while introducing conscription. (Cook, 2011 3 ed.,
Vol. 13, p.13)
At the beginning of the twentieth century, many Canadians were still adjusting to its
new ways and ideas. Then the Greatest War the world had ever seen transformed the
map of Europe and changed the nations, and the people, who fought in it forever. In
Canada, for example, during the war the government faced great challenges such as
the conscription crisis when the Country was divided by politics. In addition Canada
was accepting the new, untraditional, roles of women, who during the war were
allowed to work for the first time in men s professions ; such as ... Show more content

Borden wrote in his diary, Our first duty is to win, at any cost, the coming election
in order that we may continue to do our part in winning the War and that Canada
not be disgraced. (Cook, 2011, p.14). Borden was true to his word. During the
summer of 1917 he presented two new acts that would assure his party victory.
First Borden presented the Military Voters Act which allowed soldiers over seas to
vote in elections. Second the War Times Election Act, gave women who were of
close family relation to a man serving in the forces, the right to vote but revoked
the right to vote from citizens who were immigrants from enemy countries. (Cook,
2011, p.15) Borden presenting these acts would allow pro military citizens to vote
was strategic. The Liberals were very upset by Borden s crafty political sabotage
of their chances of winning the election. In the Khaki election, Borden s Unionists
won the most seats across Canada except in Quebec. The Unionists won the
majority of seats in Ontario and the West. The Unionists only had three seats in
Quebec. The Unionists won the election with a total of 153 seats across Canada.
The Maritimes were split with the Liberals, but the Liberals had eighty two across
Canada and sixty two from Quebec (Cook, 2011 p.18). Borden s acts and bills had
achieved their desired effect. English speaking women had been the leading cause
for the Unionists win (Cook, 2011 p.19). It is hard to argue against helping soldiers

This account I have given the reader, not so much with the intention of
commending the Romans, as of comforting those that have been conquered by
them, and for the deterring others from attempting innovations under their

of use to such of the curious as are ignorant of it, and yet have a mind to know it.
excerpt from Description of the Roman Army, by Josephus Josephus, a Jewish
priest, was said to be hated by his Jewish people for the relationship he held with

Josephus was taken prisoner by Vespasian and presented himself as a prophet. He
told Vespasian that he foresaw him as the Emperor of Rome. Intrigued, Vespasian,
freed Josephus. When Josephus premonition came true, Vespasian was so
delighted he adopted him into his family. They were the Flavians. At this time,
Josephus was referred to as Flavius Josephus. He then marries a captive, his first
wife. For the remainder of the war, Josephus helped Titus, Vespasian s son, with
the matters of the Jewish war. He helped him understand the Jewish nation and
helped with negotiations. He pled with Jerusalem to surrender to the Romans.
They called him a traitor. At this point, all he could do was witness the destruction
of the Holy city. While living at the Flavian residence, Josephus, wrote down all
the events he had witnessed. His works are meant to be factually correct and a
tribute to the Roman Army, which apparently he admired very much with such
lines as great as are their possessions, the people that won them are greater still...
He originally wrote in Gaelic, but later translated into Greek, the most used
language in the Empire at that time. After the temple of Jerusalem was destroyed,
Jerusalem was taken by Titus. The war ends in 70 C.E. Josephus was then
rewarded with land in Judeas, but became a Roman citizen instead. He was
commissioned by Vespasian to write a history of the war. This is followed by the
birth of his first son. His book

The Real Slumdogs
The video The Real Slumdogs show us many different aspects of the culture
residing in Dharavi. There are several different types of statuses that people can
achieve from a sociological stand point, but the one I am referring to in the video
is achieved statuses. An achieved status is a position that is earned, accomplished,
or involves at least some effort or activity on the individual s part. Take the story of
Babu, the hard working trash picker for instance. This trash picker has worked most
of his life as a trash picker, and through this dedication he has finally become his
own boss. Although he is still picking trash, he oversees other workers and helps
them learn the trade. If he had not worked tirelessly and put in this effort to get...

I find myself looking at this trying to, as the sociological term goes, take the role of
the other . Taking the role of the other is defined as putting yourself in someone elses
shoes; understanding how someone else feels and thinks, so you anticipate how that
person will act. If I were to look at Lakshmi for instance, I see that she works in
terrible conditions with her family, and that she cares very much for her daughter,
Sheetal. I see that she doesn t like the conditions in which her family, or any family
in Dharavi for that matter, lives. This has made her provide an education for her
daughter, even though it is costly to her own salary. Since she knows how tough it
can be to make a living in Dharavi, she has helped with a program called Project
Acorn. This helps provide services to other slum dwellers and their children to get
an education. She is a very caring person, and wants to see the people of Dharavi
get into better living conditions so they aren t suffering or not getting anywhere.
Shailesh cares for his family, and wants them to have the best life they can. While
he wants this, he also wants to pursue his own dreams as a Bollywood actor. He
wants to become a star and this makes him use a good bit of his monthly earnings to
take acting classes. He is a very driven individual, and his efforts have finally gotten
him a foothold in the film industry, as a background dancer in a music

Investigate how the Concentration of a Sucrose Solution affects the Rate of Osmosis
Introduction:
Diffusion is the movement of particles from a high concentration to a low
concentration until they are spread out evenly. An example of diffusion is when an
aerosol is sprayed. The particles spread out from the high concentration at the nozzle
into the rest of the room and that is how the smell moves.
Osmosis is the passage of water molecules from a weaker solution to a stronger
solution through a partially permeable membrane. Osmosis is a type of diffusion
involving water the water molecules move from a weak solution (with a high
concentration of water) into a strong solution (with a low concentration of water).

The reason I predict that three will increase in mass and two decrease is because in
my preliminary experiment this was shown to be the case in these concentrations,
however this could change in my real experiment.
The chips that increase in mass have taken on more water which means that at the
beginning of the experiment the sucrose solution had a higher concentration of water
than the chip and this is likely to apply to the weaker sucrose solutions as they have
a low concentration of sugar and therefore a high percentage of water molecules. The
strong sucrose solutions have a higher percentage of sugar molecules and therefore a
lower percentage of water molecules and if the concentration of water in the potato
chip is higher than in the solution then water will leave the potato chip by osmosis
and therefore the chip will lose mass. The water molecules move into cells that
contain a lower concentration due to the difference in osmotic potential between
cells. The water molecules move through a semi permeable membrane (the cell
membrane) which has big enough holes in it to let through the small water molecules,
but not the bigger sucrose molecules. At a certain concentration of sucrose solution
the concentration of water will be the same in both the chip and the solution which
means there will be no transferral of water between the
two

views the cause of Holden s depression as his lack of personal motivation, his
inability to self reflect and his stubbornness to overlook the obvious which

think you?ll find, once you get past all that, you?re going to start getting closer and

has so much personal pride he refuses lower him to that level. For if he does, in his

result of Holden giving up on school, he is unable to proceed with the natural

out to him ?Learning is a beautiful reciprocal arrangement. And it isn?t education.
It?s history. It?s poetry? (189). His goal for Holden being to see school as
something he loves and not something he is being forced to do. Mr. Antolini tried

Drugs come in many forms and from many places. Drugs have been around since the
beginning of time and people have been using them since they discovered them. Drug
use began thousands if not a hundred thousand years ago as humans started exploring
their environment. People would see a new plant or observe an animal s behavior
after consuming the plant, and out of curiosity, they would experiment with it or taste
it. This is how some of the drugs we know today came about. Cocaine, opium, LSD,
peyote, and marijuana all come from plants that primitive people discovered while

Some, if not most young adults and teens believe that drugs are bad. Nevertheless,
there are always those who see nothing wrong with living a little .
Appropriate Use of Illicit Drugs In some cases, the public views the use of illicit

medicinal value of marijuana. Marijuana is the most commonly used illicit drug in
the United States. Many advocates consider marijuana a harmless, or even beneficial,

recent years there have been propositions put on the ballot to legalize marijuana in
many states. In California and some other states, patients with a cannabis card and a
prescription can purchase and use marijuana. Marijuana helps with pain, anxiety, and
many other medical issues. In some cases, the use of amphetamines is

Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH) refers to a complex series of rare but well
studied enzymatic errors of metabolism with deficient levels of different enzymes
involved in the synthesis of cortisol (hydrocortisone).
CAH comprises a group of disorders resulting from defective synthesis of adrenal
corticosteroids. Lack of glucocorticoids, especially cortisol, causes various kinds of
metabolic problems. The response to low levels of cortisol is increased production
of corticotropin (ACTH). Lack of mineralocorticoids, primarily aldosterone (steroid
hormone), causes sodium and water imbalance which, in some cases, can be fatal.

Psychoactive Drugs
Psychoactive Drugs are chemical substances that alter behavior, mood, perception, or
mental functioning. Through the consumption of substances many cultures have
found ways to alter consciousness.
Psychoactive substances apply their effects by transforming biochemical or
physiological processes in the brain. The message system of nerve cells, or neurons,
relies on both electrical and chemical transmission. Neurons rarely touch each other;
there is a microscopic gap between one neuron and the next, called the synapse. When
a neuron fires, it releases chemicals called neurotransmitters into the synapse.
Psychoactive drugs act by altering neurotransmitter function, they bind to the site of
the firing neuron and inhibit this process so the ... Show more content on
