O BJECTIVES At the end of the lesson, the pupils are expected to: 1. detect biases and propaganda devices used by speakers; 2. clarify meaning of words using online resources; and 3. analyze the different propaganda techniques.
PRAYER Our Father in Heaven, once again we thank you for giving us another opportunity to come together as a class and to start another day to learn again. Before we start our online class, we ask for your guidance and wisdom so that we could attend to our classes very well as well as absorb and understand our lessons easier and well. Help us and guide us to be attentive to our lessons and help us understand it that we may use it in our upcoming activities and examinations. Lord, help our minds to absorb each lesson our teacher teach us and guide every activities they teach us. Propaganda is a type of message aimed at influencing the opinions or behavior of people. Instead of impartially providing information, it is often deliberately misleading. Bias is favoring one person or side over another; is generally seen as “one-sided” perspective.
7 TYPES OF PROPAGANDA TECHNIQUES
1. BANDWAGON - asks people to join the crowd and take action because everyone is doing it. 2. TESTIMONIAL - a well-known person, a big personality/expert and a celebrity endorses the product or service.
3. NAME CALLING - connects a person, product or idea to something negative. It is a direct attack on an opponent and is likely to annoy the audience. It is mostly used in politics. 4. CARD STACKING - focuses on the best features and leaves out or lies about problems. It can be very difficult to detect if you are not really knowledgeable about the subject.
5. PLAINFOLKS - uses regular or ordinary people to sell a product or a service. 6. TRANSFER - relates a product to someone or something we like; Tries to transfer the authority of one person, product, or organization to something or someone else.
7. GLITTERING GENERALITIES - uses language and values deeply associated with the audience without supporting information and reason. Slogans make great examples.
