4. What is reconstructionism? Theodore Brameld (1904-1987) founder of social reconstructionism, in reaction against the realities of World War II.

5. Major thinkers George Counts (1889-1974) John Brameld (1904-87), originator of the term reconstructionism in 1950. Paulo Freire (1921-1997)

6. Aims of education Taking education to be the instrument for achieving social and cultural improvement. Enabling the learners to envision the good future and spend their learning as a preparation for their role in the future.

13. CRITIQUE OF RECONSTRUCTIONISM: Reconstructionism suffer from shallowness. Appears to be more a romantic notion of what schools can do. Vague about detailed implementation. How to keep record and follow-up the every bit of detailed participation of students in social environment. More relevant to advanced level of education.
