WHAT IS CHEMICAL RECOVERY IN PULP AND PAPER INDUSTRY?   Chemical recovery in paper mills is a crucial process that is aimed at recovering and reusing chemicals used in the pulp and paper production process. This process is essential for ensuring sustainable and efficient operations, as well as minimizing the environmental impact of the industry. T he chemical recovery system typically consists of several unit operations and processes that work together to extract and recycle the chemicals used in various stages of pulp and paper production. These chemicals primarily include sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and sodium sulfide (Na 2 S), commonly known as white liquor, which are used for cooking wood chips in the pulping process. STANDARD TERMS AND CHEMICAL COMPSITIONS:- Black liquor: It is a byproduct of the paper-making process. It consists of water, organic compounds, and inorganic chemicals like lignin, hemicellulose , and various dissolved solids. It's mainly composed of lignin, which gives it its dark color. Green liquor: It is a solution that is produced during the Kraft pulping process in the paper industry. It primarily consists of sodium carbonate (Na2CO3) and sodium sulfide (Na2S), along with other dissolved inorganic compounds. White liquor:It is primarily composed of sodium hydroxide (NaOH). It also contains small amounts of sodium sulfide (Na2S).

EVAPORATERS:- In WCPM chemical recovery plant falling film evaporators are used there are 2 evaporators are there Falling Film Evaporator 1 (FFE-1) Falling Film Evaporator 2(FFE2) The basic working principle of the falling film evaporators is, it is a type of heat transfer device used to concentrate a liquid solution by evaporating its solvent. The formation of a thin liquid film that flows down a vertical tube and the heat is transferred from the tube wall to the liquid film, causing the solvent to evaporate.

COMPARISION BETWEEN FFE1&FFE2 FFE 1 It is a mixed feed evaporator which is made by ALFA LAVAL LTD. It is installed in 2001 The capacity of the FFE-1 is 100T/hr water evaporation FFE-1 consists of a 7 effect 10 calendria (body) Each body consists of a 545 tubes Tube length is 3.5M Feed tank capacity is 200m 3 Storage tank capacity is 400m 3 FFE 2 It is a backward feed evaporator which is made by ALFA LAVAL LTD. It is installed in 2009 The capacity of the FFE-2 water evaporation is 230T/hr It consist of 3 feed flash vessel (flash tank) before the evaporator FFE-2 consists of a 7 effect 10 calendria (body) Each body consists of a 1250 tubes Tube length is 5M Feed tank capacity is 200m 3 Storage tank capacity is 860m 3

WHAT IS RECOVERY BOILER? Recovery boilers are used to convert Heavy Black Liquor(HBL) to Green Liquor and produce Steam for power generation. Recovery Boiler Overview: Injection: Black Liquor is sprayed inside the boiler. Combustion: Black Liquor is burned at high temperature. Steam: I nside the Boiler tubes are installed in which cooled water is introduced and heated at high temperature to produces steam, is used to generate electricity. Chemicals: Burned smelt is dissolved to recover the valuable cooking chemicals. Environmental Control: Emission control system.

In WCPM there are two recovery boilers BHEL BHEL recovery boiler is constructed in 2001 by Bharath Heavy Electricals Ltd Capacity of BHEL boiler is 500T/day It is Water Tube Boiler which is operated at Pressure 40kg/Cm2 & Tempreture Of 400C It is bi-drum recovery boiler Style type liquor firing gun are used Type of burner is Furnace Oil Burner 4 Furnace Oil Burner are used BHEL boiler consist Of Primary Secondary And Tertiary Wind Box (FD FAN), 2 ESP, 2 ID Fan,3 Economizers,1ESCMT And 2 EAMT Tank Steam Generation of BHEL boiler is 1500T/day 4 liquor firing gun are used in BHEL recovery boiler ENMAS recovery boiler is constructed in 2009 by Enmas Andritz Private Ltd Capacity of ENMAS boiler is 1100T/day It is Water Tube Boiler which is operated at Pressure 60-65Kg/Cm2 & Tempreture Of 460C It is single drum recovery boiler Spoon or Conical type liquor firing gun are used Type of burner is Furnace Oil Burner 6 Furnace Oil Burner are used ENMAS boiler consist Of Primary Secondary And Tertiary Wind Box (FD FAN), 2 ESP, 2 ID Fan,2 Economizers 1 boiler bank And 2 EAMT Tank Steam Generation of ENMAS boiler is 3500T/day 8 Liquor Firing Gun are used in ENMAS recovery boiler ENMAS

CAUSTISIZER In WCPM caustisizer plant the Green Liquor is converted into White Liquor and Lime Mud is produced. White liquor is supplied to Pulp Mill and lime mud is supplied to Rotary Lime Kiln.
