REFERENCE POINTS FOR facebow Dr Aaryas Vlogs

facebow \ fas bo \: an instrument used to record the spatial relationship of the maxillary arch to some anatomic reference point or points and then transfer this relationship to an articulator ; it orients the dental cast in the same relationship to the opening axis of the articulator ; customarily the anatomic references are the mandibular transverse horizontal axis and one other selected anterior reference point (GPT 9) Dr Aaryas Vlogs

ADVANTAGES OF ANTERIOR REFERENCE POINT Determines which plane in the head will become the plane of reference . Determines the level at which the casts are mounted. Establish a baseline for comparative studies between patient. Can visualize anterior teeth & occlusion in the articulator in same frame of reference. Dr Aaryas Vlogs

Nasion (A) Used with quick mount facebow ( Whipmix ) Orbitale (B) Located by Hanau facebow with help of orbital pointer. ( Facia type, earpiece type) Orbitale minus 7 mm (C ) This plane represents Frankfort plane Ala of nose (D) This plane represents C ampers plane 43 mm superior to lower border of upper lip ( Denar reference plane locator – Denar / Slidematic facebow uses this reference point ) ANTERIOR REFERENCE POINTS Dr Aaryas Vlogs

ORBITALE Lowest Point on the infraorbital rim, palpated through tissue and skin. One orbit ale and two posterior points determine the Axis-Orbital plane. Dr Aaryas Vlogs

ORBITALE MINUS 7MM The F-H plane passes through both porion and orbital e point. Dr Aaryas Vlogs

NASION MINUS 23MM Sicher Deepest part of the midline depression just below the level of the eyebrow. The nasion guide is designed to be used with whipmix articulator , which fits in the depression. Dr Aaryas Vlogs

NG- Nasion guide Cb - facebow cross bar Dr Aaryas Vlogs

ALAE OF THE NOSE The tentative occlusal plane should be parallel to horizontal plane. This can be achieved in 2 ways- The line from the alae of the nose to centre of the auditory meatus - Camper’s line. Pointer on right or left alae Occlusal rim parallel to camper ‘s line ,transfer with face bow . Dr Aaryas Vlogs

43 mm superior to lower border of upper lip Denar reference plane locator Denar / Slidematic facebow uses this reference point Dr Aaryas Vlogs

Posterior reference points Bergstrom point Beyron point Gysi point Snow point Denar’s point Dr Aaryas Vlogs

BERGSTROM POINT 10mm anterior to the center of the spherical insert for the external auditory meatus and 7mm below the F rankfort horizontal plane. Bergstrom point is found to be most frequently closest to the hinge axis Dr Aaryas Vlogs

BEYRON POINT 13mm anterior to the posterior margin of the tragus of the ear on a line from the center of tragus extending to the corner of the eye. Dr Aaryas Vlogs

GYSI POINT 13mm in front of the most upper part of the external auditory meatus on a line passing to the outer canthus of the eye . most common point used today. Dr Aaryas Vlogs
