Relative clauses & Negative Prefixes

A short presentation about relative clauses and prefixes at an intermediate level.

2. Relat ı ve Pronouns (subject pos ı t ı on) Look at the sentences : Basildon Park is a house. Basildon Park often appears in films. Basildon Park is a house which often appears in films. Here , which is the object of the ‘ appear ’ . It replaces the noun ‘ Basildon Park ’ in the second sentence.

3. Relatıve pronouns (object posıtıon ) Now look at these sentences: Basildon Park is a house. They used the house in the movie Pride & Prejudice. Basildon Park is the house which they used in the movie Pride & Prejudice. Here which is the object of verb ‘ used ’ . We can also use ‘which & that’ in this way. Alex is the guy that I met yesterday. The teacher who I like most is my music teacher.

4. Relatıve Pronouns as object (who/whıch/that/whom) More example sentences: The book which you lent me is very interesting. The teacher liked the essay which I wrote. The man who we met comes from Thailand. The roses which he carried belongs to you. The police arrested the man that Jill worked with.

PREFIXES Prefixes are used at the beginning of the word, and it can give us some information about the meaning of the word. happy  un happy brother  half -brother Prefixes: -dis = negative meaning -mis = badly/wrongly -over = too much -re = again - il / - ir / - im / -un = opposite meaning of a word

12. PREFIXES It is illegal to serve alcohol to people under 16. You can try and read the letter but his handwriting is illegible . His payments are very irregular . Her age is irrelevant if she can do the job. People may get very impatient when they drive in big cities. It is impossible to do all this work in two hours. My bedroom is often untidy . We have had some unofficial meetings with people from the ministry.
