Factors Affecting the Motivation to Study in Class of the General Academic Strand Students Grade 11 & 12 Estoque, Godito, Jacinto, Manalo, Pascual

CHAPTER I THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Background of the Study Motivation to study in class has been one of the most deciding factors of the future of the students. It influences not only their academic performance but also their long-term success and career paths. Students with higher motivation are more likely to engage in class activities, excel well, and perform well in their overall academic performance. On the other hand, a lack of motivation can result in poor attendance, tardiness, and even poor academic performance.

Background of the Study   Several factors contribute to the students' motivation in the classroom, including teaching style, classroom environment, and peer interactions. Even external influences, such as parental support, financial stability, and health issues also play a significant role. Additionally, factors like self-efficacy, interest in the subject, and personal ambition can affect the level of engagement a student performs in class. Understanding what pushes or hinders motivation to study in the classroom is important, as it allows to create strategies that foster a more supportive learning environment. With educational problems such as addressing the needs of students, tardiness, and even expulsion caused by lack of motivation to study, identifying these factors is critical to improving academic performance and overall student well-being.

Background of the Study   This research aims to delve into the various factors that affect students' motivation to study in class, with the goal of providing insights that could enhance teaching strategies, student support, and classroom management techniques. By addressing these factors, schools can better help students in their academics and equip them knowledge for their future developments.

Conceptual Framework INPUT How does this factors influence students motivation to study in General Academic Strand a. Peer-Related Factors b. Teacher-Related Factors c. Personal factors d. environmental factors PROCESS Gathering Data through surveys, observation of students in General Academic Strand OUTPUT Engagement in class activities, Improved academic performance (grades, test scores) and effort in academic class as General Academic Strand students

FEEDBACK This guideline determined how factors affecting students motivational to study under the General Academic Strand

Statement of the Problem This study aims to describe the influences of various factors affecting the motivation to study in class of the General Academic Strand students in the Mataas na Paaralang Neptali A. Gonzales School Year 2024-2025. The research aims to answer the following questions:

Statement of the Problem 1. What type of factors influence students' motivation to study? 1.1 Peer-Related Factors 1.2 Teacher-Related Factors 1.3 Personal Factors 1.4 Environmental Factors 2. What are the impact of such factors towards the students? 2.1 Positive Effect 2.2 Negative Effect 3. What are the strategies or methods that can help nullify negative factors to effectively help students?

Scope and Delimitations of the Study This study aims to identify and analyze the factors affecting the motivation to study in class. The study will focus on various factors such as Personal Factors, Teacher-Related Factors, Peer-Related Factors, and Environmental Factors. The researchers will assess the impact of such factors with the students' motivation to study in class. This research will be conducted at Mataas na Paaralang Neptali A. Gonzales and will only focus on General Academic Strand students.

Significance of the Study This study aims to investigate the factors affecting the motivation to study among General Academic Strand (GAS) students at Mataas na Paaralang Neptali A. Gonzales for the school year 2024-2025. The following will gain from this study:

To the students: This study will help students by understanding the factors that influence their motivation and enabling them to adopt strategies that enhance their academic performance. To the teachers: The teachers understanding from the study can help students to create personalized strategies and support systems that promote a more motivating learning environment. To the school administrators: The research will offer important insights that can guide policy decisions and curriculum development, helping the school administrators better address the motivational needs of the students.

To the parents/guardian of the students: This study informs parents/guardians about factors affecting their children's motivation to study. By understanding these factors, parents can create a supportive home environment that encourages positive study habits and improves academic performance. To the future researchers: Future researchers who might interested in conducting a similar study may find this research to be a valuable resource for information and evidence.

Definition of Terms To make the study more comprehensive, the researchers included the definition of terms that will serve as a guide and can enable the readers to deeply understand the context of this research study. The following are some of the terms used and their meaning: 1. Factors: Conditions that influence or contribute to a particular outcome. 2. Motivation: The internal and external drives that stimulate a certain action. 3. Academic: Relating to education, schools, and scholarly pursuits, particularly in the context of coursework, grades, and learning achievements.

Definition of Terms 4. General: Broad, overall as not specified. Wide scope of a certain thing. 5. Study: The act of engaging in learning, particularly in school. 6. Class: A group of students who meet regularly to learn about a specific subject. 7. Students: Individuals enrolled in an educational institution who are learning.

CHAPTER III RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Research Design This study will employ descriptive research design. Descriptive research is a technique that describes a certain population, phenomena, or situation accurately. According to (Aggarwal,. 2020) A descriptive study is a study that is designed to describe different variables, without regard to any causal or other hypothesis.

Population Frame and Sampling Scheme The population of this study consists of all General Academic Strand (GAS) students enrolled at Mataas na Paaralang Neptali A. Gonzales during the school year 2024–2025. These students are distributed across six sections in Grades 11 and 12. The study will use Simple Random Sampling as the sampling technique to ensure that each student in the population has an equal chance of being selected. The sample size is 163 as determined using the Slovin's formula.

Description of Respondents The respondents of the study will be the General Academic Strand Students of Mataas na Paaralang Neptali A. Gonzales. There will be 60 minimum respondents in the maximum number of students. They will be the respondents since the study focuses mainly on the strand of General Academic Strand (GAS).

Research Instruments Used The study will use questionnaires to survey all sections of General Academic Strand (GAS) students from grades 11 to 12. The primary goal of the survey is to know the factors affecting the students motivation to study in class. The first section of the survey will consist of (4) questions about the student's profile, the second section of the survey consists of (8) questions which is about Personal Factors, Teacher-Related Factors, Peer-Related Factors, and Environmental Factors. The Respondents will rate each item based on their level of agreement using a 5-point Likert scale: 1=Strongly Disagree, 2=Disagree, 3=Neutral, 4=Agree, and 5=Strongly Agree.

Statistical Treatment of Data The researchers will interpret the gathered data from the survey questionnaire using the following statistical treatment. 1. Mean - the mean will measure the average scores that the respondents used to rate each question. 2. Variance and Standard Deviation - to determine how spread out the responses of the respondents are, the researchers will use the variance and standard deviation . 3 . Percentage - used in statistical findings and data analysis, and in order to determine how many of the respondents answered in a specific scale.

Data Gathering Procedure   The researchers will first gain approval from the principal and teachers to conduct the survey for the General Academic Strand Students from all sections of grades 11 to 12. After approval, the researchers will conduct the survey with the scheduled time given. The researchers will give enough time for the respondents to answer the survey, thereafter the researchers will then collect and gather the data.
