Types of Research- There are three types of Research Applied Research Fundamental Research Action Research
Fundamental research Fundamental research is also called as Basic Research. Basic research is designed to add to an organized body of scientific knowledge & does not necessarily produce results of immediate practical value. It draws its pattern & spirit from the physical sciences.
Fundamental Research The purpose of Fundamental research is development of theory by the discovery of broad generations of principles. Here the Approach is -Knowledge for knowledge’s sake.
Fundamental research Fundamental research represents a rigorous & structured type of analysis. Careful sampling procedure is used. It has a little concern with application.
Fundamental research The development of the theory of psychoanalysis, intelligence-Intelligence quotient, programmed learning, costructivism , brain based learning all are the examples of fundamental research.
Applied research Applied research is undertaken to solve an immediate, specific & practical problem & the adding to scientific knowledge is secondary.
Applied research So primary purpose is to apply or to use the existing knowledge. Other purpose –improving a product or a process OR Testing the concepts in actual problem situation .
Applied research When any researcher finds out effectiveness of brain based learning on the mathematics achievement of 9 th standard student, it is an applied research .
Action Research According to Corey (Originator of the term), Action research is the research undertaken by practitioners so that they may improve their practices .
Action Research When any teacher deals with any problem related to the classroom instructions & finds out the solution by conducting a small scale research, then it is nothing but an action research. Here that teacher himself/herself plays a role of a researcher .
Procedure Whatever may be the type of research, the researcher has to conduct it with same scientific attitude using the systematic scientific method. Procedure more or less remains the same with certain necessary variations
